My 55" OLED that I use as a monitor is 3 feet away from me now.

For 7 feet I would want a 77" or more.

7 feet is 2.15m. My 55 inch is a little further than that and I wish I could have gotten a bigger screen as. So yeah 7 foot for a 50 inch is totally fine.

It all depends on the person. I am not comfortable with a 32 inch screen in front of me but 27 inch is fine. Others can have tvs close to them and be fine.

you can shove ur face as close as you are comfortable, the experience is better if ur peripheral vision doesn't see outside the monitor, i sit a feet from a 27inch and it's just right, 32inch is too big, it's personal perference really. for 7feet 50inch sounds ok

I was replacing the 50" 1080p TVs I had in the bedrooms with a 55" 4k OLEDs and for fun I put one on my 30" deep computer table and I liked it.

I will replace them with 48" versions at some point but for now I am happy with them.

I've said it before and I'll say it again.  Ideal viewing distance (for 99.999% of the population) is somewhere between 1:1 (1" distance for every 1" of screen") and 2:1 (2" of distance for every 1" of screen).

That makes the ideal viewing distance for a 50" tv between 50" and 100" (~4'-8').

Personally, I like my 40" monitor sitting across my 24" desk, but I'm a videophile who wants immersion.

50"?  7'?

Are your eyes 20:200?

7' is 84" so this distance is right on the money within the recommendation of your subsequent post, which are also just that: recommendations. They have principles backing them up, like a certain FoV or resolving power of your eyes, but in the end just pick what you enjoy most.

I have the opposite funnily enough. For gaming I really like to be able to catch everything in more or less a single glance, so 24-27" feels ideal for the distance I'm at. For TVs I like a bit more FoV filling experience.

OP: my 55" is about 2 m away from my couch and sometimes I wish it was a little bit bigger. I would say 50" is fine for such a distance, but I wouldn't drop down to 43".

Screen size x 1 to 1.25 = view distance for Gaming.

Screen Size x 1.25 to 1.75 = view distance for Movies and TV

50" display at 7' is ok. thats about 1.7x but may seem kinda on the small side for that distance.

Some people prefer a bigger display at that distance. Personally at 7' view distance i''d be looking at a 65"  which is 1.3x.

I'm about 24-30" from my 40" monitor, and that's perfect for me.
