NAS, Server, or some mix?

Go to solution Solved by SupaKomputa,

Check this video, might give you an idea how to set it up.

I currently have a Raspberry Pi running CentOS I use for practicing Linux and running my own website (Just for fun). I am potentially interested in a NAS and would like to combine these interests. Should I just run a home server? Should I just attach a NAS to my pi? I don't plan to have many visitors on my site (Think less than triple digits), so I'm not worried about scaling. It's mostly just for fun.

How many TB of storage do you want on this nas?

You can easily setup a nas on basically any pc by making a network share. Check out samba on linux.

Good question. I don't have an immediate use, so it's all hypothetical. I could see myself going with 8TB HDD if they get marked down during BF.

Plug some drive to the pi and shared them to the network, viola a Network Attached Storage.

For a single person usage, no, as most of budget NAS box have the same (if not worse) cpu than the Pi.

I still have a Nas box with only 400mhz single threaded cpu.

Oh damn, ok. I never looked into specs and just assumed it was better than pi. Thanks.
