Microsoft Office Excel Issue, bit confused, I am.

Ok, this is an issue I cannot replicate at home. 

At work we use a excel spreadsheet to track some various issues but the issue I am having is on occasion there will be rows that will randomly hide themselves. The function to unhide rows does not unhide them, you have to physically drag the row back open. Photo to show what I mean.

 

As you can see below, the rows 9-14, 16-19 and  22 are hidden (indicated by the double line). I can select with the mouse to drag and open them back up but for some reason they will randomly hide themselves again. I do not know why this happens or what is causing it.

 

Version we are using is Office 2016.

 

Any suggestions would be helpful.

Please dont suggest I update the software this is beyond my access and our systems are 3rd party maintained (I really dont know why ).

 

At the moment I am almost willing to recreate the entire document to correct this behavior. One of the major problems with this issue that with the row hidden the contained data is no longer available when performing a search. Very irritating.

Is there a setting I am missing or something else I have not thought of?

Or perhaps, you have to resize all cells to a certain height and width? I've had that issue before (if we're talking about the same issue that is).

Without actually using the file, it's all kind of guesswork.  You could have a macro that's hiding rows, correctly or incorrectly, in addition to what was said above.

No, not to my knowledge.

All rows are set to Auto-Height adjust. I have changed tried removing that but no change in the behavior. I even set the rows to a set height but no change.

As far I know there are no macros applied to the document.

Well, you can check the macros.  Or were you saying there are none, definitively?

Might sound stupid, but is it happening while you're using the document or only between sessions? Are you the only one using that sheet?

 

Thinking it could be something as simple as a coworker thinks it's a good thing to do to hide the solved things from his view or something?

Row numbers being blue tells me you have a filter enabled. There should be dropdown menus on the cells on the title (first) row of the range being filtered where you can choose which values will be hidden/visible.

Column with YES seems to be the only one showing, so this sounds right.  Hiding NO or any not YES?

I checked and no macros are in use.

I and two others are using the document. I asked and they have no set any macros or filters.

Yes I thought of that as well, I have double chacked and filters are not being used at the moment but to be sure I have made sure all filters are cleared.

The column your referring to is not being filtered.

**Resolved**

Disclaimer: I have not determined the cause of the issue but I have stopped the behavior.

 

What I did: So after going through all the previous steps I decided to search the functions for a clear all filters, macros and others. I selected Clear All and it seems that has done the trick. I went through and checked everything before hand. I am still confused as to what it was that was causing this behavior, I found no filter or anything else being applied but maybe a hidded filter somewhere was there???

Honestly I feel turdish for asking but I was getting frustrated and not thinking clearly. All this data is getting moved in the near future to an ERP so we can stop using excel for such a large file/data base (for lack of description.)
