Sata power extention

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: file transfer

Other details i will mount a front usb plate into my desk, sata power is powering the hub.

                     The original plan was that I extend the sata power cable to 2 meters (80 inch) and connect it to my pc.

                      But I cant find any cables that are that long... Maybe there is a adaptor for some other type of cable? I don't know but I am looking for solutions

I would figure out which of the SATA power voltages the hub is using, and then get an external power brick of that voltage to power it. Running low voltage power over long-ish distances can drop the voltage enough to cause weird behavior.

 

Sidenote: 2 meters = ~80 inches

You'll have a hard time finding such cables because the wires are normally too thin and there's too high voltage drop on the wires.  Instead of 5v, you'd get 4.75v or less... instead of 12v you may get 11.5v

 

Get a molex to sata adapter cable or something like that, cut the adapter wires in the middle, add your own thick wires to extend it. Make good solder connections, add some heatshrink before soldering to insulate the wires afterwards...

Oh, then just make sure you buy a hub that runs off a normal power adapter you plug into the wall.
