Ethernet adapter

Henryjames989

I don't have a Ethernet adapter anymore, I'm not sure what I did but my Ethernet adapter stopped working and it's not showing up in device manager even with hidden devices on. I have a asus b550-f gaming, non-wifi, I'm not sure what to do but I do have a little wireless dongle so I can download anything if I need to but the connection keeps dropping and is really slow so I need that Ethernet to start woking.

If it isn't showing up in device manager it's almost certainly broken. You can try poking around in the BIOS to see if there's any settings related to the ethernet adapter, or even any indication it's detected in the BIOS but not in Windows, but it's probably time to start looking for a PCIe ethernet adapter or calling ASUS for an RMA.

Edit: If you have unknown devices in device manager, try installing drivers from ASUS. It's also possible that the drivers somehow stopped working.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Bad solder joint with an intermittent connection, manufacturing time bomb not caught in QA or your previous use, failed thermal protections, a butterfly flapped its wings in Namibia and caused a localized power surge inside your ethernet chip. There's really no way to know, but components can occasionally just die for seemingly no reason.

Or it could be a driver issue like I edited in to my previous post.

Shit happens.

Try reinstalling the driver.

When I download the lan drivers from Asus the Asus setup won't run, upon googleing it all they said was to have device manager update it with that directory, so Im stuck without a way
