Are Chinese PCIE risers dangerous?

Filingo

I'm thinking about buying one of these:

My friend has the other type of riser which is weird pcie to usb to pcie with molex for power and he told me it burnt one of his motherboards with a smoke so I won't be using one of these fire hazards.

But is the riser above also dangerous (directly to PCIE, no extra power cables)? And the fact that it's cheap Chinese

I'm willing to bet the majority of PCIe risers come from the same factories in China, nothing about that is inherently dangerous, but hard to tell if that one has any design flaws that could make it dangerous.

You shouldn't need any power cables for a PCIe riser. I'd just advise paying a bit more for one from a known brand that's already done the quality control for you rather than saving £15 or so

If you look at the screw holes in the pictures they don't have grounding around them so I would stay away just to avoid similar situation like the NZXT h1 when it would cause short/fire or at the very least use plastic screws not metal ones. Spend little more on a branded one if you want peace of mind or find one with grounding around screw holes

It's way too expensive here

it's hard to say I still don't see any grounding around the screw hole but it also depends on how the PCB is made what I would look for is something like thatimage.png.4359bf43142b2d2d64d26b70496d6bbb.png

If you cannot find one like that then plastic screws are a fine solution although not as sturdy

There are both good and bad ones, so it depends where you get them from, the ones linked seems alright as said there have been situations where ones have shorted. I personally recommended ones from liheat they are very well regarded due to the length of testing they go through but it comes at a cost, i believe they are the suppliers for Lian Li.
