Are these PC part choices any good? New build, need help

Budget (including currency): £800 (British Pounds) or €900 (Euro) or $1000 (US Dollars)

Country: Netherlands/ United Kingdom

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: gaming (Tomb Raider, Sims, Indie Games, Minecraft, etc. on high but not highest settings), streaming and casual video editing.

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

I have moved from the UK to the Netherlands and sadly wasn’t able to bring my PC with me so I would like to build a new one. My previous build dates back to 2014 and the motherboard is holding me back from upgrading, as well as my Power Supply making noises sometimes which is not a good sign. Because of the current GPU situation I was thinking of plugging in my old Nvidea card from my previous build, until prices become reasonable. Is that a good idea? Would I have compatibility issues? Also because of the GPU situation I am not sure what GPU I should get, I have budgeted in £300 ideally, if you could recommend a good GPU for the system I propose that would be great, otherwise I keep dreaming about the god tier GPUs which wouldn’t make sense for this build.

I would like my PC to be quite, but I don’t feel confident building a water cooled rig so I am sticking with fans, but if you have any tips or things I should look out for to ensure a quite PC, please let me know.

My old PC specs

CPU - AMD FX-8335 4.00 GHz 8-Core AM3+ CPU 8MB

CPU cooler - basic fan cooler

GPU - Nvidea GeForce GTX 960 4GB 16X PCle 3.0

Motherboard - Gigabite GA-970A-DS3P AMD 970 Chipset, ATX w/ 4 RAM Slots

RAM - 16GB (4x 4GB) DDR3 1866 MHz

Power Supply - 600W Cooler Master B2 Gaming Power 80+

Storage - 500GB SATA SSD

What I am thinking of buying:

CPU - AMD Ryzen 5 5600X or Ryzen 7 3700X (they are priced basically the same)

CPU cooler - be quiet! Dark Rock 4 (not sure if it is too deep for the case though)

GPU - use from old rig temporarily, but please leave suggestions!

Motherboard - ASUS Prime B450-Plus ATX AM4

RAM - 2x 8GB Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR 4 - 3200

Power Supply - Corsair TXM Gold 550 W 80+ Gold Certified Semi-modular ATX

Storage - SATA SSD (from previous PC)

Case - BitFenix Nova Mesh SE ATX Mid Tower

—> this would sum up to about £500 leaving £300 for a good GPU.

For peripherals, I’ll be operating on Windows 10 and I already have keyboard and mouse and have a Full HD VA panel 144GHz budget monitor, nothing fancy.

As mentioned earlier, I am open to any suggesting especially regarding GPUs and how to keep the PC quiet. Thank you for your help and have a nice day :)

Reusing old GPUs is what a lot of people are doing.  That one is only good for 1080p and a 60hz monitor likely won’t get the top run off it very often. This is not as true for more modern cards.  One thing to look at is win11 compatibility.  Want to make sure you have that for a new build likely.  Your old machine was likely hopeless in that regard.

That’s a lot of cooler for a mere 5600.  They don’t run very hot.  Better choice perhaps than some AIOs though which tend to have even higher heat envelopes.  The way to check for cooler compatibility is to look at the listed height of the cooler and the listed width of the case and make sure A is smaller than B  by at leas a mm or two. More is better.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

A 5600x is probably enough for what you listed and maybe a b550 motherboard like "b550 a pro" on the budget side or b550 tomahawk or asus rog b550 A on the more "expensive" side of things instead of b450

The ram is ok, and maybe up the psu to something like 650w though i can't personally recommend which one

From what i can found that cooler is barely fit inside that case so maybe change something like atleast 240mm aio if you have the budget or cheaper option like vetroo v5

Ok.  I have absolutely no clue why that might be listed as “funny” looking through it the only thing that might make sense is perhaps the lack of limit on the “more is better” statement which if taken to an extreme could result in a low profile cooler which would not be good.   “More” would be more like 4-10mm.  I didn’t mean 20mm

5600x is faster, 3700x has more cores. This a choose your compromise situation. I guess the best way to make your choice is to ask yourself if you do a lot of multitasking (running programs at the same time). More multitasking I lean towards 3700x, if not 5600x will do fine. Alternatively you can go with 10400, which is slower than 5600x, but a lot cheaper.
