Can't you connect the phone with a usb cable to your PC and see the phone as mass storage device?

Another alternative which I've used is to get a free FTP client from Play store (I have for example AndFTP) and set up a basic FTP server on your computer (Filezilla FTP Server can be set up in less than 5 minutes)

Then, simply connect your phone to your home network, start AndFTP and connect to your computer's ftp server which has a folder setup to accept files... you can then browse folders on your phone and drag them over to be "uploaded" to your computer.

I think you could also set up Google Drive or something from Google to make backups of your content to a free Google Drive, and if your phone is on the home network it wouldn't hurt your phone plan but it's extra "upload to internet" and "download from internet" steps.

ADB is built into every Android device and can work over wifi. So you could use ADB pull and push to move files back and forth over wifi if you want if you wanted.  You'll probably find it a bit more cumbersome though if you want to do this regularly than a software solution?

For photos/videos, etc. I just plug in my USB cable and set the USB mode to file transfer (or whatever's appropriate)...then I just use the built-in Windows explorer/file manager.
