Can't boot UEFI stick on my ASUS laptop

I recently bought a new ASUS laptop, specifically a ROG Strix G17 model installed with Windows 10.

For some reason, I'm unable to boot into a UEFI flash drive I installed with Linux, even though I set to boot from that in the BIOS menu. Instead it just boots straight from the SSD where Windows is.

If you need any more info about the problem, I'd be happy to answer.

I appreciate any help anyone can give me.

Thanks.

It being made with UEFI motherboard most likely isn't the issue. All modern motherboards are UEFI, even on laptops. You might need to force it to start from stick by making laptop stop before booting into anything. I had similar thing with some bootable USB not so long ago, can't remember what I did with it though.

What did you use to create your usb drive? If you used Rufus, did you select DD Mode and UEFI Mode? For simplicity, I usually recommend Etcher.

Is Secure Boot Enabled? Very few Distro's ship with a signed Shim for Secure Boot, I believe Ubuntu is one of them. For most distros, Secure Boot will need to be disabled.

If Windows was installed with Secure Boot Enabled however, disabling Secure Boot may make it unbootable. I have heard mixed responses regarding this.

Okay. The distro I was using was Linux Mint.

What I did, actually, was boot Mint on a Virtual machine which I plugged my USB stick into so that I could install the distro (complete with full disk encryption) into it.

Yes, I have Secure Boot enabled.

You've probably figured it out by now, but You can open the Boot Menu by pressing ESC at startup(for ASUS), that will let You choose, which drive You want to boot from.
