yeah, but will an overclocked 6 core out perform a regular 8core? Note: I do know that bench marking the i7-9700f previously had it running equivalent to an i7-9700k on the charts. So, silicon lottery wise, it's a very good chip. I don't know about the 8700k...

The differences will be application dependent. If your use-case benefits from clock speeds, an overclocked 8700K at 5GHz all-core will be better than the 4.5GHz all-core boost of the 9700F. If your application benefits from core/thread count, then the two will trade blows in those workloads, because while the 8700K has only 6 cores, it has 12 threads.

8700k for sure. You'll at least get hyper threading.
