So RTX 3070 Ti and I7 2600k

So I was planning to build a new system for the upcoming BF 2042 - love all of the BF games 🙂

For my b-day my brothers got me the 3070ti, and my dilemma is if I should wait for Intel 12gen or get a new system now.

My system for now is:

  • i7 2600k
  • 1070 OC
  • mob dz77ga 70k
  • 16 gb 1333Mhz DDR3... yes I know 🙂
  • 750W

So what do you think would happen if I add my new 3070ti in this computer 😄

if the psu is good and you play gpu heavy games or/and higher resolutions it will be ok. your cpu will likely still bottleneck but not as bad.

Cyberpunk you'll definitely be bottlenecked even if only trying for 60 fps. You really need R5 3600 or better if you want 60 fps with say crowds turned up to high. But if you're willing to pay for DDR5 doesn't seem like too bad an idea to wait for Alder Lake. Would suck to jump on a DDR4 platform right when they're about to get replaced. I don't play the Battlefield games but my 3.6 GHz 4C/8T Xeon E3-1231v3 (basically a locked Haswell i7 without the gpu) can keep 60 fps in everything I have thrown at it other than Cyberpunk, so I wouldn't sweat performance for your unlocked Sandy Bridge i7. It should be plenty to tide you over until Alder Lake. Still blows me away seeing a gaming cpu relevant almost 11 years later, Sandy Bridge chips are freaking legends.

You're going to be bottlenecked. if not by the CPU itself directly, but the slower RAM speed. Your GPU will probably struggle especially on larger texture based games where copying from drive -> RAM -> VRAM will be horrible slowed down by DDR3's limited bandwidth.

Just as a comparison:

The fastest DDR3 will handle 12.8GB/s.

The Slowest DDR4 will start at 25GB/s

System: R9-5950x, ASUS X570-Pro, Nvidia Geforce RTX 2070s. 32GB DDR4 @ 3200mhz.

Yep I'm shocked its still working and with the original cooler, never had any problems. Well don't know if I will pay for DDR5, but I'm okay with waiting and seeing what will happen 🙂

Slap a better cooler on it and overclock the absolute sht out of that 2600k

I think the 2600k just like the 2500k also reaches 5ghz pretty easily as long as you have good enough cooling, make sure your temps are not above 80c, reccomended volts that ive heard are 1.52v, but considering that this is a very old system i think you might be able to run 1.6v if neccesary and i will only reccomend 1.6v if your cpu temps are 75c or lower

2600k ~5ghz should be good enough till you can get the next gen platforms

I mean if you're not going to pay the early adopters tax for DDR5 no reason to wait then, as all the Ryzen 5000 series cpus can be found at or below MSRP now and they're monsters.
