Hey everyone,

I had my loop for around 6 weeks now and all my parts are new including: CPU block, GPU block, pump, reservoir, radiators x2 and hard tubing. They are all brand new and never used. Given that my CPU and GPU block have acrylic tops, I can see that they were absolutely clean without any debris at all when I purchased them. I rinsed them with distilled water for 30 minutes or so before installing them. For the radiators, I have cleaned and rinsed them as well for several hours to remove any debris from the factory. I did this religiously to ensure that both radiators were completely cleaned before I installed them.

Currently, I am using Dazmode protector (https://www.dazmode.com/shop/watercooling/liquids/performance-liquid/dazmode-protector/) which is an anti-corrosion and biocide coolant. People claim this is the same stuffs as Feser One from Germany. It recommends mixing 100mL of this coolant with up to 900mL of distilled water. I mixed 100mL of this coolant with 700mL of distill water in my loop.

Anyhow, my watercooling loop has been running for 6 weeks (my computer is usually turned off at night time) and I find this weird growth in my loop. As you can see from the pictures and videos below, there are blotches of white spots which look like mold/lint and appear fluffy too. You can see these spots along the hard tubing, CPU waterblock and reservoir. Also, you can see a thin layer of this fluffy stuff on the surface of the water in the reservoir.

Any idea what this is? Is this algae growth?

My ek fluid did the same thing. I went to add more fluid to another rug and noticed it was in the bottle and it ended up going in my res. So idk if it just broke down from age or what. Tend to dilute my stuff with distilled water and it doesnt happen any more.

Cant say there was a percentage I used. Just ends up getting mixed. Started around 20-30% water. But if I was doing a flush and only had 200ml left in a bottle, the rest would be water until the next flush or change to the loop.

definitely not growth or algae, probably just some crap from the radiators/fittings that have only now become dislodged.

I dont think so, i cleaned and inspected each part meticulously and the blotches of white stuff seems like its gradually growing over time

i also think it's rad debris or dazmode protector is not working properly (maybe reacting to something)

for me to clean my rads besides what u did,

after sloshing them, i ran my rads thru a filter loop for 3 days

filter loop: d5 pump > 1 rad > steel mesh filter > 5 micron filter > back to pump

flush the loop, then swap the rad to my 2nd one

the micron filter did pickup a lot of crap from my rads that sloshing didn't

That’s exactly what debris does though, accumulate in areas of low flow. But you do you if you are so sure 😉

Thanks for your suggestion! Initially when I got my radiators, i attached them each individually to an external pump and ran a mini loop with a filter for several hours while tilting and rotating the rads. The filter caught some particles but it wasn't a lot. I might have to do that again now given this growth in my system to ensure that all the growth is removed from my rad. The good news is that this growth is easily dislodged from the walls of the tubing and reservoir. Taking apart my system and cleaning each part is inevitable at this stage.

I am just wondering which coolant (clear) i should use that works best. People have suggested EK cryofuel, Mayhem XT-1, dead water, corsair hydro X, promochill biocide.. and there doesnt seem to be one that stands out the most.

EDIT: I posted my issue on another thread as well, and some guy posted a picture that looks EXACTLY what i see in my loop. Check out post 36 here: https://hardforum.com/threads/weird-growth-in-loop.2012872/

Oof that thread was painful to read with the amount is misinformation floating around. That definitely is not biofilm in your loop. Seriously, it is not biological.

i'm using EK cryofuel concentrate, just mix 2 part coolant to 8 parts distilled (i buy from 7eleven)

i think next coolant change will be distilled water with mayhems inhibitor+ & mayhems hades+

How was your experience with the EK concentrate?

I was thinking about mayhems inhibitors and hades as well. I prefer to put the least amount of chemicals as possible in my loop, but also want to protect my loop against any corrosion or bacteria. Im pretty sure the stuff in my loop is some sort of algae, biofilm etc. If the mayhem dont work, ill try some sort of concentrate.

I use EK concentrate as well....the clear one...and have the EK dye kit (only use it if I'm feeling it).

I drain / clean my loop about every 6 ~ 8 months?

So far, no complaints.
