I have recently purchased a Netgear Nighthawk R6700v3 Router to use with our Verizon Fios Modem as our internet speed would max at about 50 mbps and average 25. The product advertised about 450 on 2.4 and 1300 on 5 GHz but I am still only getting 50-60 mbps. Why is this happening?

If you want more speed you gotta pay your ISP more money, you only need to upgrade your networking hardware when the speed your ISP is delivering to your home is faster than what your home networking equipment is capable of moving around.

First of all like mentioned above your ISP determines your speed. For example my family pays for 200 Mbps down 10 Mbps up, that what we expect to get. If you want faster internet speed then you need to pay Verizon more. 

 

Next, you say the FIOS modem. Fiber doesn't use a modem, so either you're connected directly in to the ONT OR you connected to the Moca Router Verizon provides. You will need to clarify this. 

 

Third. WiFi is developed in a lab. That means that in the real world where interference is a constant and the wireless environment can change at any time those speeds that are advertised are complete BULL SHIT. In the real world I would expect maybe 2/3's of what the WIFi speed rating is on each band. That being said, shit loads of devices use 2.4 Ghz meaning its generally congested which means it will be slow. 5 Ghz has poor penetration power and lower range this is more true as you up the frequency. 

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

Basically you've fallen for Netgears Marketing targeting unexperienced users. 

While technically all they say is true, it won't magically increase your internet speeds.
