I would go Q9650. 3GHz stock is quite nice, and you could probably overclock to 3.6 on your current mobo

I would go Q9650. 3GHz stock is quite nice, and you could probably overclock to 3.6 on your current mobo

Well, once the BIOS gets an update from me, it may be able to reach 3.6. Remember my old ABIT mobo?

Ah yes I remember it. I might actually recommend upgrading your mobo and keeping your Q6600. If you get a good mobo you could get it to 3.7GHz at least.

Ah yes I remember it. I might actually recommend upgrading your mobo and keeping your Q6600. If you get a good mobo you could get it to 3.7GHz at least.

Sorry, but I ain't spending money on a new mobo. It actually works just fine for me, with 6xSATA, SLI, up to 32GB memory support with ECC/non-ECC, HD Audio, and still has a couple legacy PCI slots for my kinda obsolete hardware.

so when IPC mattered the most intel had hyperthreaded dual cores and AMD had better IPC dual cores, now that most things are evenly threaded intel has better IPC and AMD is focusing on hardware multithreading.
pretty sure chipset features is the only reason anyone still buys intel, im guessing a q6600 with a mild oc would blow this into the weeds today, you can buy a q6600 from cex for £30 (time of writing) thats like $48, recently sold mine, at 3ghz it scored around 3.10 in cinebench r11.5, probably around 290 in r15...

Thank you! Pentium 4 IPC was horrendous. A Stock Q6600 could pretty much blow this thing away, even when overclocked to 4.8GHz. Anyone that bought this thing upon release was ripped off.

Hmm, any advice for overclocking my Q6700. You already know my motherboard, if you know any good overclocking guides I'd be grateful.

 

I've currently got it running at 3.10GHz on stock settings

Hmm, any advice for overclocking my Q6700. You already know my motherboard, if you know any good overclocking guides I'd be grateful.

 

I've currently got it running at 3.10GHz on stock settings

Raise the vcore to 1.4v and then raise the fsb to 400MHz

Stock? I can't even get close to 3GHz on stock.

Current Rig: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600, Abit IN9-32MAX nForce 680i board, Galaxy GT610 1GB DDR3 gpu, Cooler Master Mystique 632S Full ATX case, 1 2TB Seagate Barracuda SATA and 1x200gb Maxtor SATA drives, 1 LG SATA DVD drive, Windows 10. All currently runs like shit :D

Well I've got it to 3.5 GHz at 1.4V, but it seemed to boot up at 4GHz, however Windows wouldn't load. I think the problem must be the RAM, as the CPU seems to run fine. I'll try upping the RAM voltage a bit to see if that works

EDIT:

Seems like 3.50GHz at 1.40V is my limit without knowing more about overclocking.

Even at 3.6GHz, Windows Blue-screens when P95 starts to run, above that windows won't boot at all

RAM: 2 x 8GB Corsair Vengeance Pro RBG 3200MHz - GPU: MSI RTX 3080 GAMING X TRIO
