Budget (including currency): $1500USD

Country: USA

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: AAA games and design

Other details : I have a 27inch gsync monitor so I will be playing in 1440 at 120 refresh rate hopefully. Planning to do all this once I get 3080 at msrp, hopfully by this year. This is my existing part list-https://pcpartpicker.com/user/optional888/saved/DFNrD3

Hey guys,

As the title describes it, I am trying to upgrade my existing PC to be able to play current and future games like CP77, Metro, etc at 1440 res and atleast 130 refresh rate. I am planning to get a 3080 at msrp, once I do I need to upgrade the rest of the parts as well.

I did some part picking myself and was wondering if it is an overkill or something is lacking, or if I can save money on certain parts. Here is the link to the new parts I picked- https://pcpartpicker.com/user/optional888/saved/hncKXL

I want to future proof this build for atleast the next 5 years.

Be blunt. Thanks!

You'll have a hard time matching your FPS to your refresh in any modern AAA game.  Even if it's well optimised big graphical games just don't hit 100+ it in my experience.  Not until you're a couple of GPUs and a CPU or two after the release date.  GTA (i know it's old that's the point) I never could hit 120 in that until i was on my 8700k.  The trick with high FPS has more to do with CPU than anything else

Edit:

Both your lists are private BTW

With all the Trolls, Try Hards, Noobs and Weirdos around here you'd think i'd find SOMEWHERE to fit in!

I don't mind compromising. I completely understand that hitting 100+ fps on modern games is almost impossible, which is why I am also trying to see if I did some overkill on the new parts.

What do you suggest I upgrade from the list?

For now keep the 980

Cpu might be overkill, swap for 5800x if it is overkill

Idk if you need 16 or 32gb ram for design so choose 1

thanks! I was looking into AMD build as well, glad you included it. I might just need 16gb ram for now.

I wanna know the reason for picking Enermax for PSU and Silicon Power for RAM, is it just to cut cost or is there something I'm missing?

It's an old build. If I remember correctly SSD expensive 5 years ago.

Cut cost whilst still being decent

If i was completely cost cutting then i would have swapped the psu for an aresgame one and that is prob a literal bomb of a psu

For now, the new build I'm not that particular about booting speed so I have not include it. Yet.

But yea I have a laptop with SSD and it boots faster than my desktop lol

Care to elaborate? Do you mean on a brand level or spec level?

We have the same Ram, and for Mobo do you have suggestion for something below $200 on an Intel CPU? I don't need a 1kw PSU as well..

Everything... just- everything.

Not the best thing to point out, I bought this RAM at 16 before I knew anything about computers. I was just lucky that I knew a lower CAS latency was better for Ryzen and went for a CL16 kit. Crucial Ballistix would've been better for the price, I was just ignorant to certain things at that time.

I have many suggestions, one of which is a full rebuild of that spec list. The other is that you go do some research, try Gamers Nexus and Hardware Unboxed.
We can only help out so much here, in the end it's up to you to make the final decisions. Thereby, you should know what you're doing first and foremost.

Here's what any sane person would recommend for $1500 (if you must buy hardware now and can't wait):

That's part of the issue right there, you shouldn't be going with Intel. The B560M Bazooka is the best budget board on their platform, but it's non-overclockable and same goes for every other Intel board at that price on current-gen CPUs. All of AMD's boards are overclocking capable unless BIOS restricted or otherwise on the ultra low-end.
