Depends on your definition of gud ‘nuf.  For me t’s on the edge.  Kinda marginal to low.  It’s supposed to be a 105w chip, which is more or less in range of a hyper212.  I don’t know how accurate that is.  It’s a bit light.  The question for me is if it’s too light.  Not sure.  I’d kind of like to see one or two more pipes on it.  Could work though more or less.  Might wind up needing a touch of underclock. You’ll want a decent past job and the fans will be spinning a lot.  Might depend on ambient.   If you’re in a tropical area and the thing doesn’t get air conditioned that’s another point.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

I just upgraded to a Ryzen 9 5900X on a B550 Gaming Edge WiFi mobo, and I'm using TeamGroup T-Force Vulcan Z DDR4-3000 CL16 OC'd to 3200, so a very similar setup.

My cooler is the Scythe Fuma 2. When I stress the CPU for an extended period, with no overclock, the max temperature I reach is 78C when ambient is 23C, so 55C Δt over ambient, which happens to be identical to the 125W test that Gamers Nexus did for that cooler. That makes sense, as the max power draw according to HWInfo for the CPU is about 135W.

The Hyper 212 is going to be weaker than that. I actually have a Vetroo V5 in my old system that I considered bringing to the new one, but I decided against it because I was worried that even at stock speeds, the 5900X would overwhelm it. But it's probably borderline.

What are you going to be using the computer for? If you're doing long Blender renders or compiling large programs, I'd step up to a better cooler, because the Hyper 212 probably won't cut it. If you're just gaming, you'd probably be fine, because your CPU will likely draw only 80-100W at most. When I ran the Ashes of the Singularity CPU benchmark, my CPU power usage was around 80W, and that benchmark is probably close to the max you'd see in a purely gaming scenario.

LTT did some videos that claimed the noctua 5 pipe is good fo a 5900

They just accidentally moved the decimal one place - the box lists it as 5.39 x 5.16 x 6.08 inches.

Jayztwocents also cooled a 5900X in his video on the Vetroo V5 cooler, which is also an inexpensive, 5 pipe air cooler.

If only gaming, such a cooler should be fine. I was able to OC a 9600K with the Vetroo V5 and my temps never broke 80C under any conditions, even when stress testing with all-core loads, and in spite of my previous case not being as good for airflow. The only problem I ever had with the V5 was the stock fan becoming noisy when it ran at max speed.

The Hyper 212 is "enough" for you to be OK. I think they're a great deal when they're on sale for $12-20. I think they're a lousy choice at $30+.

It's an upgrade over the stock cooler but not a HUGE one.

Cheapest I’ve seen it recently is $25 it’s a twitch less powerful than a 34 esports and a twitch more powerful than a dark rock slim. The main issue with the hyper212 is it’s an older design so the adapter can be a bit twitchy depending on what you attach it to, and the original fan on the original hyper212 was a straight up sleeve bearing which meant care had to be taken for placement if you didn’t want the fan to wear out prematurely.  The other thing is it’s method of fan attachment.  Those things that look like plastic clips aren’t. Use a screw driver.  The plastic clips can break ant they’re expensive to replace.

You're spending all that money on a PC, and only putting like $30 into the cooler? Why?

That's like buying a performance sports car and putting mis-matched, used rubber from a scrap yard on it.

My assumption was that it was because he had a hyper212 lying around.

That's why I'm using and OCing the Vulcan Z DDR4-3000 with my 5900X. It isn't ideal, but I can either spend $0 on 48GB of not-ideal RAM or around $250 on 48GB of higher quality RAM.
