MSI Z97 Gaming 7 MB not remembering settings

Guys,

just checking that you guys agree with my diagnosis. Just bought a second hand MSI Z97 Gaming 7 with a i7 4790K processor. Problem is the motherboard keeps resetting to default setting when I boot it up. It works fine other than that. I’m thinking the motherboard battery is flat? Am I prob right?

Would be a simple and easy fix, so why not just try it?

If it boots up and says "CMOS Cleared" every time, the battery is dead. If it's just booting and not applying your overclocking settings, it's probably something else, but it's worth trying to replace the battery first. Otherwise, maybe try a BIOS update, but there's not much else you can do.

Sounds like the CMOS battery is indeed dead. I used my MSI Z97 Gaming 5 two months ago and found out the battery was dead too.

But yeah i agree with that diagnosis, replace battery.

That should hopefully fix the problem, if not take out the new battery, put old one back.

Then you at least have a fresh battery. 🙂
