Change local login username?

Dacobi

I just realized I was drunk when installing Win10 and I misspelled my login name.

All I can find online refers to changing my Microsoft account name, but I need to change the local username ie. name of the home folder.

Is this possible? (Edit without reinstalling 🙂)

Control Panel, then User Accounts;

Then User accounts again:

And then Change account name.image.png.015c6e40eb5bea52b280cf108e26d29e.png

And then enter your new account name.

EDIT: I just realised you needed to change the name of the folder.. I don't think this method does it.

This method doesn't change the home folder name

I am getting pretty fucking sick and tired of the "watch something else" responses. It's such a cop out answer because you could say that about basically anything, and it doesn't address the actual complaints. People use it as some kind of card they pull when they can't actually respond to the criticism raised but they still feel like they need to defend some company/person. If you don't like this thread then stop reading it. See how stupid it is? It's basically like telling someone "shut the fuck up". It's not a clever responsive, it doesn't address anything said, and it is rude.

I don't have that option.

My account isn't local, It's a Microsoft account, but somehow I can't change the local part.

These steps seem to be for a Local account, not a Microsoft Account. The OP is having trouble with a Microsoft one.

Thanks. I couldn't change the actual user name since its a Microsoft account, but using this link and a second admin account I've changed the folder name.

And on the login screen my real name is shown and not the local user name, so the only thing I saw that bothered me was the folder name.

You got it backwards.
