Looking for a 65" tv to use as pc monitor

Lazybum

Need some suggestions for a 65" tv to use as a pc monitor. Been using an Acer Predator CG437k for year and half now and looking for something bigger that I can also play ps5 on as well. Usually play wow classic, diablo 3, destiny 2 and random games here and there. Not fan of pvp or fps games that are not co-op. Pc has an amd 5900x and evga ftw3 3090 ultra and my budget is prob 2-3k usd. The bfgd monitors don't really seem to be widely available anywhere and seem to be 4-5k at least. Since I don't play anything competitive thought a good TV would work just as well for me.

TLDR: want suggestions for 65" to use as pc monitor as well as for ps5. Have amd 5900x and evga ftw3 3090 ultra in pc

The best options are these two imo:

LG C1 OLED 65"

- Perfect black

- Instant response times

- Lowest input lag (afaik) of any TV currently

- Risk of long-term burn-in (you play some games that are regarded as "high-risk")

- Lower brightness than LCD TVs (Typically around 700 nits in HDR, 250 nits in SDR. May be a problem if you have a very bright room at daylight.)

Detailed review: LG C1 OLED Review (OLED48C1PUB, OLED55C1PUB, OLED65C1PUB, OLED77C1PUB, OLED83C1PUA) - RTINGS.com

Samsung QN95A 65" / QN90A 65"

- Very bright (easily >1500 nits in HDR and SDR), which results in a much better HDR experience

- Still very fast response times, albeit not as fast as the OLED

- No risk of burn in

- No "perfect" black, but due to the MiniLED backlight it can dim dark parts of the screen to be very close to OLED blacks

- In some regions only the QN90A is available, which only has 2 HDMI 2.1 ports but is otherwise the same TV (1 of them is the eARC port, so connectivity could be a problem)

Detailed review:

Samsung QN90A QLED Review (QN50QN90AAFXZA, QN55QN90AAFXZA, QN65QN90AAFXZA, QN75QN90AAFXZA, QN85QN90AAFXZA) - RTINGS.com

I have a LG C9 OLED 55" and an Asus PG35VQ, so i have a reference for a good OLED TV and a good FALD VA panel (which is the same tech as the Samsung TV). I'd personally go for the Samsung TV out of the two i mentioned above, as the HDR experience is much more impactful and you have peace-of-mind in terms of burn-in. Yes, burn-in is a small problem compared to models a few generation ago, but it's still a problem that shouldn't be completely ignored.

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.

Any difference in a normal hdmi 2.1 and one that is eARC, really would only need 2 hookups, 1 from gpu for pc and other for the ps5. Dont look like the LG has display port hook up so would have to use hdmi

Edit: Quick Google search says eARC is a feature added to hdmi 2.1 and as far as I can tell since I wouldn't need the audio aspect of it, it can be treated as a normal hdmi 2.1.

Please remember to quote me so i can see you replied.

If you don't have an eARC device then this doesn't matter to you.

I am using an LG 49" Nano 85 now as a monitor and there are larger versions like the 65NANO90UPA https://www.displayspecifications.com/en/model/1fae2681

Look for 120hz, HDMI 2.2 and Freesync Premium.

I use it because Chrome burnt in after 4900 hours on my LG OLED. Now I just use the OLEDs for gaming and TV content.

The NanoCells are better monitors than they are TVs. I got mine for $500 last black Friday and it is the best cheap monitor I have ever owned.

I mention Freesync Premium because I own 3 Freesync monitors and I don't like it with NVidia GPUs but Freesync Premium is as good as G-sync Compatible going by NVidia's pendulum test.

As a TV they don't compare at all to the OLEDs but as a monitor they are very close. My only issue with it is the same with most modern 4k monitors and that is 1440p does not look great on them. On the OLEDs 1440p looks perfect.

I also noticed that with my C9. 1440p looks almost as good as native 4K, but on the 4K monitor i had (LG 27GN950) 1440p looked like hot garbage. But i was just thinking it's because TV's have better upscaling algorythms. I never thought this is an OLED thing.

However i did read a lot about the reviews on the Nano TVs from LG and it seems they have pretty horrible local dimming across the board.

That's the main reason why i'd not get one. But they're a lot more budget friendly than QLED TV's.

The only reason I think it is an OLED thing is because the Nano 85 is right beside the OLED so it is easy to compare.

Yes it is horrible and I would never replace an OLED with it. The Image quality in games is about the same as my old 32" LG 4k 60hz VA monitor and that was fine for gaming and browsing.

The HDR is about the same as my monitors as well so inferior to the OLEDs.

So it is a cheap 4k 120hz IPS HDR monitor that you can just leave on all day and not worry about burn in.

It was very popular at $600 US(I paid $500).  After I got mine last black Friday it was out of stock and its 2021 replacement is only 60hz and cost more. If I had to replace it I would have to go 55" and pay $1100 for a 55NANO90UPA. At that size and price I would just buy another OLED and watch it burn then toss it in 3 years.

Oh damn, so getting the BenQ EW3270U would be a bad choice? 1440p would look like shit?

Btw, I do have a OLED tv purely for watching netflix and tv and no sign of burn-ins and I do watch a lot Discovery Bullshit, the ones with white/light grey logos and sometimes National Geocrap too. No square burn-ins. It's the LG A7V, 55" FHD OLED. 3 years old now.

@LazybumYou got a very powerfull PC! So what are you waiting?! Get a freakin' 65" OLED and enjoy the beautiness!

A good tip: get a second monitor to use if you wanna browse or writing documents. Just a small cheap-ass portable monitor.

If you know you're limited to 1440p performance wise, then get a 1440p display to begin with. It will look better on a native 1440p 32" than downscaled on a native 4K 32".

Well, I would be limiting myself at 60hz (again).

For now I plan on waiting for the new Panasonic 48" OLED that should be coming out this month and next month the other line-up. I want to feel, taste and lick the OLED beauty lol

Wether I'm limited to 1440p, it depends on games. GTAV for example can run at 1440p/120 on my 1080Ti. But older games (yeah shit sherlock) can run at 4K easily.

It may or may not.

It is the sort of thing reviewers should check into.  You could see if any forum user has one to test.

I use 2019 B9s that have HDMI 2.1 so 4k 120hz with a 30 series card.

One of my OLEDs burnt in using Chrome on the forums and YouTube. My other OLED that was only used for gaming and TV content is fine.

Since I stopped using the TV for browsing the internet it has not gotten any worse.

Nah, I once had a 240hz monitor and GTAV ran very fluent and nice on 1440p/120. And the best thing has to come: even if GTAV has dips into the 40fps due to graphics and trees mods, it still felt so fluent. And the inputlag got better too.

Can't wait for Panasic has to offer. It will be only used too for gaming and TV content too.

And ah yes, does your B9 has inputlag? Just curious.

The B9 just like the newer OLED models has expeptionally good input lag. LG OLED TV's are among the best TV's in terms of input lag.

They're on-par with high-end gaming monitors (as long as you're in game mode).

Here is a part of the review from RTINGS.com about input lag:

image.png.ce99dc8cf119c0b5e8016d80c12434b5.png

This is partly because of the instantaneous response time inherent with OLED tech:

Now that I have a 30 series card on one it has gone from 4k 60hz 8 bit to 4k 120hz 10 bit.

The Nano 85 got a 3080 last night and it suddenly became G-sync compatible. Even though 4k 120hz is nice, it does not have the impact like it does with the OLED. I may keep it with a 2080 ti and just use the 30 series cards on the OLEDs.
