Changing monitor resolution from 1600x900 to 1920x1080 but keep the 75fps refresh rate? In the display settings, it won't let me go past 1600x900

cwgzz

My monitor is 1600x900 but I am trying to change it to 1920x1080 and keep the 75fps refresh rate, but in the display settings, it won't let me go past 1600x900. I do have a second monitor that is a TV that I use as an extended display, and that TV is built at 1280x700 but I can go past the limit of that to 1920x1080 without any issues, it just shrinks everything down which is fine, but for some reason, my monitor won't go past that limit. If I need to lose the 75fps to match the 60fps of my TV monitor, then that is fine. Thank you.

Why would you do that? If a monitor is natively built for 900p, 1080p wont help and really just gonna cause a lot of dithering and aliasing around text. I personally would keep it as is, but you can make custom resolution through your GPU control panels. So yeah, whats your GPU, and what video output youre using?

Then why can my TV do it and not my monitor?

Windows practically dont have a sense of resolution limit on TVs sometimes, i got a 720p TV that windows listed can do 4K. And besides, the thing i talked about really applies universally.

TVs are required to accept a 1080p signal in order to be compatible with Blu-ray players, cable boxes, etc. TVs with fewer pixels have hardware or software implementations for scaling the incoming 1080p signal down to the resolution of the TV, usually 720p. The TV reports to your GPU that it is compatible with a 1080p signal, that is why it shows up as an option for your TV.

For the best image, you should send a native resolution signal to your TV. Windows will usually put a "Recommended" next to whatever that resolution is.
