What's the use case? What's your budget? What are the exact CPUs?

I shudder to think how many individual models "i5 10th gen" and "i3 11th gen" for laptops must encompass. 

Corps aren't your friends. "Bottleneck calculators" are BS. Only suckers buy based on brand. It's your PC, do what makes you happy.  If your build meets your needs, you don't need anyone else to "rate" it for you. And talking about being part of a "master race" is cringe. Watch this space for further truths people need to hear.

Depends on what you want to do and what exact hardware you are looking at. As example, amount of cores is important for some tasks more than others.

 

When I was looking for new laptop 6mo ago, the amount of cores was important, so I got Ryzen 5 instead of i5 of similar performance.

If it's literally just an office and basic university machine, either would be fine. I would be more worried about the creature comforts like display, touchpad, speakers, etc.
