Can I upgrade from a GTX 1050 TI to a RTX 3060 without problems?

MaxtheHusk

Hello! I want to upgrade my GPU from a GTX 1050 TI to a RTX 3060. My question is can I upgrade without any problems? Like the motherboard to not support it or something else? And forget about the availability and the price I am being theoretical now so ya. I just want to know if I can upgrade without problems. Thanks 🙂

My system specs:

CPU:Intel Core i9 9900KF

GPU:Nvidia GTX 1050 TI

Motherboard:AsRock H310 M-HDV

PSU: 500W (I do not know its model)

RAM: 16 GB Crucial 2400 frequency

Storage: 1 TB HDD, 240 GB SSD

It looks like your mobo will accept everything fine.  You should only need to download new drivers after the install.

It must be true, I read it on the internet...

Motherboards typically aren't an issue since PCIe is backwards and forwards compatible, so you could use even a modern GPU with PCIe 4.0 in an older motherboard with PCIe 2.0 (with some performance deficits).

The PSU could potentially be a problem if it's a cheap one. Nvidia recommends a 550w unit. But normally it should be fine, provided is has as many power connectors as the GPU needs.

You should be able to. Depends on the parts you have since its a pretty big graphics card, you might have to get a new case and you also might have to get a new power supply but this all depends what you got now.

Can you tell us about the PSU model ? So we can at least know if it gonna be okay if you’re really considered to upgrade to RTX 3060

Bro! His MB is fine for the i9-9900KF (it's even listed in the supported CPU list) - might not be ideal or one of the "best", but it'll do. As others said, unplugging the PSU and taking it out (maybe not completely, but enough to read its labels) will help determine if it's good enough, if not, you might have to upgrade it to at least a 650w(and maybe even go semi modular or full modular if your current PSU isn't - it's a QoL upgrade, trust me).

Then, as mentioned, the 30 series GPU are BIG BOI cards, so you'll have to look at the dimensions and what your current case can handle (I had to change my case to "futureproof" it for bigger 30 series cards).

We need to know this as otherwise you can have a non-functioning or potentially dead pc on your hands.

So open your case and have a look at the psu worst case you need to remove it.
