My current setup is

cpu: amd Ryzen 7 105wtdp

ram: 32gb Corsair vengeance

ssd: 2 m.2 SSD drives

graphics: 8gb nvidia 2060

psu: 850w

cpu cooler: noctua chromax cpu cooler

i was considering downgrading to a amd Ryzen 7 65wtdp to make it easier on the system. Would doing so would I be able to still play games like iRacing and X plane 11 just fine without it using 100% of cpu or overheating it? Thanks for help I’m starting this as research before I make a decision.

What uses?

For $300, you're probably better off upgrading from whatever you have (guessing 1st or 2nd gen Ryzen) to a 5600x for $299.

In games, the 5600x will blow away all Zen 2

What's your old cpu?

What specific motherboard do you have

My current motherboard is a ATX Asus ROG Strix B550 F-Gaming with Wi-Fi and my current processor is an AMD Ryzen 7 3800x 105w TDP I was looking into a lower wattage processor maybe I don't need all that wattage I have now, I only play iRacing at 60FPS and occasionally Xplane 11 but I need it to be able to handle 100 lap races with ease that what my league runs.

5600x will do that nicely ; 65w

Don't see the point of going through the hassle, it's merely a sidegrade...

Which Chormax? There's a few. Are your fan curves set up? Does your 2060 also run hot?

I'm not actually trying to be as grumpy as it seems.

I will find your mentions of Ikea or Gnome and I will /s post.

You can, but I personally wouldn't bother doing it

You can try manually undervolting it, that's a free way to reduce wattage

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

Underclock, undervolt, cap the TDP (I guess that depends on mobo), all good ways to make your 8 core CPU into a slower, less hot 8 core CPU and all free.
