Looking for a console used, cheap. Dunno what though.

I want to play JRPGs like Tales series, Final fantasy or Fire emblem.

If I go gamecube I'm definitely getting Monkey ball with all the mini games and stuff too.

Or if I go PS3 It's guaranteed that I will get Gran turismo 5 or 6

ps3 is a fuckin time capsule & is a rather fascinating system for those who jailbreak their systems. There is also xbox 360 which has halo, gears, crackdown, & some other really good exclusives.

I did my research and I think it's cool how PS 3 goes from using ancient 90nm process nodes to fairly modern 45/28nm parts.

Well each consoles have their own unique titles.

Gamecube : Zelda titles are great, long play time, very satisfactory. If you're a zelda fan, get this first.

PS3 : GT, Last of us, Uncharted series, God of war, FF, Tomb Raider, RDR1. The catalogue is huge.

I have a second generation PS3,it's better than the rest of the PS3s out there,

First of all backwards compatibility with hardware for the CPU + Software for the GPU let you play PS2 games at 1080p!

Second - 4 USB ports!

Third - SD Card slot

Fourth - Compact Flash slot

And i upgraded the hard drive to 1TB.

But the biggest problem with those units is the Yellow Light Of Death or YLOD 😞

YLOD is one of the few downsides of ps3

What is the cause?

It depends on what syscon error code you are getting.

But i have to warn you that the NEC TOKIN capacitors are suffering from a design flaw, all NEC TOKINs are defective and will die.

Newer models don't have them but most of them don't support a custom firmware.

The CECH-21xx models are the safest option.

They support a custom firmware and don't have the NEC TOKIN capacitors.

What kind of local-multiplayer games are there for the PS3 aside from racing games?

What are the games where I can have a buddy over to play with/against using a second controller in other words? Something Like Monkey ball that had all the sport/mini-game modes.

I'd have to strongly recommend PS3. Mainly because you have access to not only PS3's JRPG library, but all of the PS1's JRPG library as well as a lot of the PS2's JRPG library. A lot of the best JRPG from the PS1 and PS2 era can be bought off PSN for use on PS3. Sadly PS3 isn't cheap any more like it was 4 years ago when I got a CECHP fattie in great shape for $40 from Gamestop. Nowadays you might get the controller for $40.

NOTE only CECHA and CECHB fat models can play PS2 discs in hardware, but any PS3 can play the digital PS2 Classics that are for sale on PSN. Sadly I think the only way you can see what games you can buy on PSN for the PS3 is getting on PSN through your PS3.

on ps3 there’s also retroarch & other emulators if u jailbreak it so if ur gonna get a ps3 get a fat because all fats can be jailbroken

They can all run unsigned code AFAIK but only Fats and CECH-20xx / CECH-21xx Slims can have coldboot CFW installed.

If you're going to get a GameCube, I would steer you towards a Wii also.

The Wii (assuming you have the 1st gen model) is backwards compatible with the GameCube.  You can use GameCube peripherals and memory cards with it.  This vastly opens the library up.  You have the entire GameCube and Wii library to play then.  And no, the Wii isn't just shovelware like the meme.  It has a lot of good games on it.  Hell Nintendo Life just did a video on 100 good Wii games in 20 minutes.  Plus there's the top Wii games as voted on by readers of Nintendo Life.  There's a lot of good stuff on the Wii too.

Now before you get frustrated with me going, "I ain't asking about the Wii, I want gamecube!" you still get that.  But GameCube games are also going up in price.  Wii is starting to hit that collectable sphere, but most of the good games are still affordable.

PS3, lots of good games.  I'm not as much of a sony gamer as I am Nintendo, but they do have a lot of good games.  You can basically get any system and you also have backwards compatibility with the PS1.  So that's two good libraries right there.  IMO, the PS1 library doesn't hold up as well as the GameCube library does for the Wii, but that's up to opinions.  PS1 games are also already peaked, so the more must have games kinda have a premium depending on the game.  But you still got good exclusives and RPGs on the PS3.  It really just depends.

I think CECHC only has the PS2 gpu in hardware, cpu is emulated in CELL. Only CECHA and CECHB have PS2 cpu and gpu in hardware IIRC.

It's the opposite - My unit has the CPU of the PS2,but the graphics is rendered by the GPU of the PS3 instead,

Which lets me render PS2 games in 1080p 🙂

I have both consoles, but I see myself using my GameCube a lot more often, but that's mainly because the games on the PS3 don't interest me as much as the GameCube games I have,
