Budget (including currency): $3,500 - $5,000 USD

Country: Mexico

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Mostly gaming but I am also planning to do a bit of video editing, but mostly gaming.

Other details So far I've got the peripherals lol. I got a Samsung Oddyssey G9 monitor, a Logitech G915 keyboard and a G502 Gaming Mouse.

Hey guys I'm looking to build my first gaming PC ever, a top of the line PC if possible. what has been holding me back, as I believe it's happening to a lot of people is the scarcity of computer parts such as GPU's and CPU's, etc. and the fact the you can only get it from scalpers most of the time.

I'm currently driving a 7-8 year old (don't remember) Alienware (X51 R3) and it is really a pain to play in this machine, nvm video editing, I didn't know any better back then. My current specs are:

Processor    Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-6600K CPU @ 3.50GHz   3.50 GHz
Installed RAM    16.0 GB
System type    64-bit operating system, x64-based processor

GPU: NVIDIA GTX 970 (I know right)

My question is, What would you recommend upgrading while we ride the current situation and preferably, I'd pretty much like to use parts that can be used in my future build, perhaps a year from now? hopefully sooner.

I really appreciate your help / recommendations.

I know your laptop isn't great, but my suggestion would be to keep using your laptop for now. But start signing up to the GPU notification sites and channels on discord and what not, then when you eventually get a GPU come back here and someone will help you build a PC around whichever GPU you snag.

I just saw your budget so a 3080 would be good

Indeed, as soon as I can get one MSRP

I will try and get an i7 and see if that makes any difference. Thank you all for your suggestions. If anyone else has anymore ideas, I'd appreciate that.

I think instead of a i7 get a ryzen 5 5600x because is cheaper and actually better. and if you are willing to spend $450 on a cpu then get a 7 5800x and you should get a 3080 for Msrp.

I'd love that but my current crappy motherboard is intended for intel. 😔

if your dealing with a slow pc h would recommend Intel because although amd  is better for gaming Intel is better for multitasking so you would get a slightly faster system and your video editing would be easier but I like Intel so that's my opinion good luck

If anything it's the opposite.

Corps aren't your friends. "Bottleneck calculators" are BS. Only suckers buy based on brand. It's your PC, do what makes you happy.  If your build meets your needs, you don't need anyone else to "rate" it for you. And talking about being part of a "master race" is cringe. Watch this space for further truths people need to hear.

you saying you would game on Intel??

I wouldn't do either on Intel if I had a choice. But up until Ryzen 5000 the general consensus was that Intel was slightly ahead in gaming and AMD was better for workstation tasks.

I was just stating my opinion that's what I have always know it as but other people might disagree
