Because USB adapters 8 times out of 10 are horrible solutions. They overheat and drop connections.

My advice would be to look to see if they have a new drivers available. Most of the time that can fix an issue like you describe. Keep in mind that besides Ethernet, Power line adapters and Moca adapters are a real option. Might be worth looking in to.
