Titan X Maxwell 12G vs 1660 Ti 6G

Ok so. There are several listings for a Titan X Maxwell card around my place of residence. I currently have a GTX 1660 Ti with a 6GB frame buffer. Now, I want to know if the GPU core performance is similar. Since the Titan has a 12GB frame buffer, I wanna have that because I'm playing games with higher res textures and my 1660 TI is running out of VRAM. Would the performance from the GPU itself be substantially lower on the Titan?

The 1660ti is a little better.

Ok thank you. The GPU core does just fine in my games so if it's a little slower it's worth it for double the frame buffer.

Keep in mind higher textures also means the gpu needs to work harder. Also also what is the price for these cards?

About $360-$400 USD
I'd go for 30 series but...
Do I need to explain?

That is a bad price just to get some slightly better textures that you'll almost not notice a difference between. Save you money and get a good card later.

Yeah yeah. I've also been getting into doing some video-related stuff and the 6G buffer is completely full when rendering
So maybe I should go for a 1080 Ti?

Far better option, the 1080 Ti was a monster when it released and still really damn solid now. Around 2070/2070 Super performance depending on game/api, so I believe that puts it up against the 3060/3060 Ti on the current series?

That is normal. It uses all vram to help render. The titan won't be faster in rendering.

Uh yeah I believe so. I can get a 1080 Ti for $450 USD, sound like a good deal?

I'm not up to snuff on the used market right now so I don't know for sure. I got the one I had for $500-550 or something back in 2019 I believe, given the state GPU prices are in now, $450 doesn't sound bad at all. What model is it?

Noice, should be a solid model then. Aorus Xtremes are usually fashion > function but they're still well built and perform solidly (they just aren't top dog for temps). Just wanted to make sure someone wasn't asking $450 for an MSI Armor series or something 😬

For the prices that they sell at, even before the shortages, I'd say it is not worth buying. Your GTX 1660 Ti has 6GB of VRAM, that should be fine for 1080p gaming, at least for now. For comparison, I have a GTX 980 Ti, the performance in gaming is slightly lower than, or almost the same as the old GTX Titian X and the GTX 1660 Ti should be a bit better than the 980 Ti. If you are planning to run games at 4K or 1440p ultra, then it may be best to wait for the right deal to come for something much better, like an RTX 2070, 2080 or better (it may be a while, a long while).
