LOCAL NETWORK FILE TRANSFER SIZE ISSUE "File is too large for the destination file system''

DutchRaver87

Hi Linus & Team,

I am having an issue regarding file transfers between my server and my desktop pc.

  • Both computers are connected directly together via a CAT5e ethernet cable, both pc's are using the same internal Intel gigabit PCIe network cards.
  • Both the server and the desktop pc are also connected to a wifi router using the onboard NIC adaptor (2 network cards per machine, one direct connection and one via router connection).
  • I am trying to tranfer files via copy/cut & paste from one to the other but if the file size is larger than 1.5GB in size I get that awesome error "File is too larger for the destination file system"
  • I have already set up ''Remote Desktop Connection" between both pc's and I have also shared each of the hard drives from the server with my desktop using the \\computer name\location name method but still no luck.

Please help and if you need photos or more info please contact me as i would like to rectify this really annoying issue.

Kind Regards.

Sounds like the issue is exactly what it says on the tin error message. That file is too big for the destination file system (aka format). What is the drive you're trying to transfer to formatted as?

All drives are formatted in NTFS as they are all over 3TB in size and FAT formats restrict the capacity.
