B450 works for Zen 3..?

So, the B450 apparently works for Zen 3 cpus, but I was reading that there is limitations or drawbacks..

What are the problems here? When you do the BIOS update, do you still get the full performance of your zen 3 cpu?

Yeah, but some features are not there

Pcie gen 4

Rbar (on some, some have it)

I can think of more now.

I could use some help with this!

please, pm me if you would like to contribute to my gpu bios database (includes overclocking bios, stock bios, and upgrades to gpus via modding)

"Does b450 support Ryzen 3rd gen? Yes, it does for the most part. These motherboards use the same AM4 CPU socket as do the newer 470X and 570X motherboards. Most B450 motherboards will need a BIOS update before a Ryzen 3000 type CPU will work well with them."

Yeah so you've gotta update bios sometimes. you still get full performance after bios. i dont know the drawbacks tho

Resizable Base Address Register. It just helps the CPU fill up VRAM on dedicated graphics. Currently only AMD RX 6000 series and Nvidia RTX 30 series support it.

Thanks! You mentioned you gotta do the bios update before "Ryzen 3000 type CPU will work". I am looking at buying a R5 3600 and thought it was Zen 2 not Zen 3? Am I wrong?

Resizeable bar/smart access memory (Sam) it's the feature that allows the CPU to access all of the gpus vram at once, not just 8mb chuncks

I could use some help with this!

Gen 3 =/= Zen 3. Gen 3 Ryzen is the 3000 series which is the 3rd generation of Ryzen in general. Zen 3, which currently is only 5xxx processors is the 3rd revision of the Zen architecture.

I'm not actually trying to be as grumpy as it seems.

I will find your mentions of Ikea or Gnome and I will /s post.

Yes, that is a zen 2 processor.

Did you have a specific board in mind that you wanted?

Usually you can just check the support site of the board, and it will tell you if ryzen 3000 series is supported out of the box.

Which one? Each brand has many different B450 boards.

B450 is the chipset that's in the motherboard.

I recommend you give this a read. It should help you understand the chipset a little more.
