IT Procurement looking for Corporate Solution

Hi from Australia.

 

I recently took over the National Procurement role for IT in my company. I need to seriously look at our current infrastructure and a new storage solution.

 

Currently everyone works and remotes into a network "drive" for all company work (nothing stored on and of the machines locally. Current 24TB (with redundancy) capacity is at 89%. Work is processed locally and then saved back to the network disk.

 

We have over 600 clients on site (daily) and over 2k nationally that would have to access the location at some point. Individual file sizes max out at about 300mb, major databases are all stored separately off-site.

 

What is the range of solutions i should be exploring with my suppliers and what do i need to look out for? We want stability, multi-user speed and redundancy but balanced with price to performance consideration. 

 

I want to have an unbiased opinion to my N-IT team.

First what is your current infrastructure architecture? What vendors do you currently use? How are you delivering remote access to workers (RDS, VPN, VDI)?

I don't have the current architecture information and knowing where and what to look at to identify and define this would also be appreciated.

 

Current suppliers are Dell and Cisco.

 

Remote access is via VPN. 

 

The upcoming review would enable the signing of additional or alternate suppliers to contract so I want to know what questions I need to be asking and/or investigating.

Is there others in IT at your company to ask about the IT infracture? That seems like a much better documentation

 

This feels like a ask your team/boss question and not a ask a forum. I have no idea what your network is like here.

You could ask your Dell Partner or Account executive about Unity XT or PowerStore or if you are on a budget the PowerVault NX. There is also the posibility to get migration and deployment services.

Sounds like you need to have an in-depth discussion internally about what needs to be achieved. Being in procurement, your job is to source something, not design it nor implement it. Not being rude; that's just the way it is. If you've been tasked to go to market and find a solution then you need a much clearer list of requirements compiled into an RFQ.
