Is 3070 with 8GB enough for next 5-6 years? Only 1080p AAA gaming.

Hello,

I was looking to make a purchase for 3070 but i am concerned if the 8gb GDDR6 memory will be enough for the best 5-6 years or not for just 1080p gaming. Not going to upgrade to 1440p for sure.

Can anyone help me with this query? Thanks.

8GB of VRAM is more than plenty, especially for 1080p. You barely need that for 4K.

Well, im not saying 8gb  can't be enough, but this whole thing about only high res like 4k would use a lot of memory is kinda bullocks in my experience.

For example i dont see a lot of difference between 1440p  and 4k playing ROTTR.

And other games just use a lot of RAM and i have to lower settings accordingly.

For example RE3 with medium / high'ish settings 1440p

note this is with "textures" 2GB setting, it goes up tp 8GB setting, there's just no way with 8GB card  when it's already using 5-6GB total with the 2GB texture settings...

Monster Hunter World can easily use up 7.5GB "dedicated VRAM" with high settings...

overall games seem to be pretty well  tuned for  8GB cards , but  who  knows for how long and if someone wants to play at high / max settings 8GB is already severely limiting today in many games.

edit:  @Hadi Kirmaniif you're staying on 1080p why not get a 3060 with more VRAM?  3070 is honestly a 1440p  card and kind of wasted for  1080p , it'll still  work well though of course.

I have my evga 3070 running at 1440p without issue at all, average over 140fps on all AAA games on high or extreme settings. I have zero interest in going 4k.

Hello, Thankyou for your input! Im leaning towards a 3070 because i want long term usage for 5-6 years. a card that would last me a good amount of time. 3060 is quite a bit slower and i dont think it would comfortably last that duration. whereas 3070 might have a chance!. Moreover im getting the FE from an nvidia official partner. Its the only way to get a chance at buying a card rn. the Aftermarket models are extremely high priced, but the 3070 FE is selling at its MSRP in my country in batches. But obviously there is no 3060 FE thus, my only options are 3060 ti and 3070 and i didnt see much price difference there in price so i thought why not the 3070 itself!?

oh yeah,  i guess that makes sense!

well, tbh it should be good for several years but as said some games might run into issues with the VRAM, but it shouldn't be a dealbreaker,  it's after all one of the strongest cards currently , so yeah.

I got the 3060 and in horizon zero dawn 1080p with every setting maxed out there's 9.5 gb of vram allocated ... it doesn't mean it's using it but it's still more than 8gb allocated according to HW info ... The allocated memory is most likely double what it's really using cause the game says about under 5gb usage in the setting.

That being said I would say that a faster gpu core will last you longer than a slower one with more vram ... so I would bet that your 3070 will be kicking strong when I will need to change my 3060
