Buy a desk-top from Ikea and some legs from Ikea so you can get the size the way you want it. You could probably also find a nice chair at Ikea also.

My Current Build:

Honestly the absolute best you can do is ask around in your family if their place of work is getting new desks and have them be on the lookout for an old one for you. The stuff they have is ten thousand times better than any of the IKEA junk people tell you to buy, and most often they are actually free because they're otherwise just thrown out (the same goes for chairs btw). Otherwise you should definitely build your own, it's not that hard and building stuff is fun.

I got my big glass desk used for $25 a couple years ago. Came with a crappy chair I don't use.

You could try looking on Craigslist for a decent one. (Mine was from a tag sale. It replaced the tiny one my parents helped me build when I was like 7.)

Look for a used desk on something like craigslist or whatever is the equivalent where you live. By getting a used desk you can probably find something with far better build quality than a boring ikea desk. It's pretty hard to specifically recommend something without knowing what size it should be, if you need drawes or what style of desk you're looking for.
