Are you io limited currently? What read speeds are you seeing?

 

What cpu usage are you seeing? Is this multi threaded?

 

Do you have a budget in mind? How big is thed ata base?

 

Have you looked at cloud instances too? might work better here.

OP says they are using plain, old grep, so no, it's not multi-threaded and it's entirely the wrong tool for the job to begin with. No fucking wonder it takes hours for OP to get results.

Feed the data into a database and stop using grep, for one. You don't even need any sort of enormous beast of a machine for a basic SQL-database of a couple of million records.
