4k 75hz or 1440p 144hz?

egorchapl

So, I have a choise between 4k 75hz monitor and 1440p 144hz one, what would you recommend for gaming? I know most people find 1440p 144hz better than 4k 60hz, do those extra 15hz make a difference here?

The 15hz makes almost much no difference. In gaming, 1440p 144hz is a better gaming experience than 4k 60/75hz. Plus there's the lower hardware requirement to run 1440p. Get the 1440p 144hz, since monitors smaller than 32" don't really benefit from 4k vs. 1440p, and 32" or bigger is kind of too big for a lot of people.

There's always the ultrawide option. If you're into single player games, a 100hz 1440p ultrawide is so much more immersive than both 4k 60hz and 1440p 144hz in regular form factor.

The more I learn, the more I realise I don't actually know anything.

Recommendations: Lian Li 205m (sleek, pretty decent airflow for a non-mesh front panel and cheap), i5-10400f (Ryzen 5 3600 performance, 20% cheaper), Arctic P14 PWM fans, Logitech g305.

15hz is something that honestly is hard to see when comparing side to side. Of course it’s better, but if you are expecting a difference from 60hz that you can notice without paying attention for several minutes, you are expecting a bit too much.

Linus ever pointed out in his videos that 75hz over 60hz is still a whopping 20% frame increase. He said it's nice to enable it if you can. Like some business and non-gaming monitors can do it and it does make a difference. The thing is, it's just a free upgrade.

For your choice, I would totally go 2K 144hz. 4K is fine on 60hz just for the resolution, 75hz won't do that much more. 144hz really does make a great difference for smoothness. It kind of depends on what games you play.

All right, thanks for replies, i'm going to buy 1440p 144hz. I also have an option to buy 1440p curved ultrawide, but i'm not sure about it's usability outside of gaming, does anybody have any experience with that?

unless you sit very close then 1440p/144hz is better, and buying uw/curved is for immersion/fov while cost about doubles against a comparable 16:9 monitor. For me it wasn't worth it, i also know others who only uses uw, personal preference.
