Musk has nothing to share with Edison; even despite the controversies Edison was at least an actual inventor who personally contributed to some of the things he is famous for. Oh they do stuff with their money.  It’s generally largely invested in a diversified portfolio. It’s not like the average billionaire has a single gigantic checking account or something.   You could mean he attempts to invest carefully and ethically though which the average rich person generally does not do.  It’s not unusual for such a person to hand off such duties to a specific professional and not even know where their money is invested.

you can see in the video, a decrease in accuracy and increase in false hits. but it looks good enough!

now it just needs to be hardwired for 1-way traffic. as in, incapable of activating neurons or receiving control inputs

I'm really not sure what you're on about here. They've launched over 1300 satellites and as of several months ago have over 10,000 active subscribers (likely way more now). If that doesn't constitute a "large scale" test, what does? Additionally, I would hardly call starlink service "high latency". The median latency has been tested to be 30ms and the 99th percentile latency is 42ms. Sure, it's not fiber, but that's about an order of magnitude better than existing satellite service and is comparable to cable in many places.

Not really a fan of Elon Musk to be honest. IMO the only reason he's so much more "popular" than all these other billionaires is because he knows how to do PR and how to appeal to the Millennial and Gen Z generations, which, granted is an accomplishment in itself.

 

I'm not saying he hasn't done some cool stuff, but he's also done a lot of bad stuff. Lots of people just tend to gloss over that because he knows how to market himself and his companies. I try to look at things themselves, not the company or man who created it. I don't fanboy over him like some of the other people in this thread.

true in so much as there is a fundamental similarity between a tree and a step ladder.  Both are made of wood and can be climbed.  If one saw a field with a hundred stepladders in it one would have a wholly different impression than if they were a hundred trees. 
 

Edison did do more personal basic research than Musk has, in that he did any at all.  He was still mostly a businessman and a self promoter though.  The “wizard of Menlo Park” was about as much a wizard as the wizard of OZ. He was a very successful tech businessman who hired inventors and engineers and profited off them.  One of the engineers he hired was Tesla.  Tesla eventually came to contest him and in Edison’s most profit marking endeavor, National electrification, beat him.  Tesla died crazy, penniless and alone though whereas Edison did not.

My understanding is that the star link network is eminently reachable.  It’s set not just for Leo but low Leo.  So low that it’s satalites are more or less guaranteed to reenter all by themselves very quickly.  One of the reasons Musk specifically does not want to antagonize the Chinese government is he feels they could shoot it down at their leisure.  It simply cannot be used as a military system.

PayPal wasn't even called PayPal when Elon was there and the company was very different and way less functional than the PayPal we know today.

Tesla was bought out by Elon using money he got for leaving PayPal (yea, from my understanding they basically paid him just to get the fuck out of there) and soon afterward he completely replaced the original founders of Tesla kicking them out of the company. StarLink seems like a company that was actually founded by Musk so that's good.

Same with SpaceX, although I'd still consider the engineers and scientists at those companies to be the main reason for those companies success as those companies are doing actually really cool stuff that doesn't need to be over hyped yet for some reason Musk always feels the need to over hype everything and make painfully obvious lies like Starship being able to carry 100 people or it being used for earth to earth transportation.

NeuroLink was founded by Musk (or rather his money) and 7 other actually useful individuals and given Elon's track record of being hell to work with, I wouldn't be surprised if most of those founders aren't there anymore.

So your complaint about musk is that he’s not doing more engineering work himself than a single person could possibly do?  I don’t have the data on PayPal or Tesla so I can’t dispute those. Doesn’t mean they are right though in light of the engineering thing.

I'm more so criticizing his narcissistic need to be the center of attention while the people actually doing the work get sidelined.

The only claim the video seems to make is that musk claims to have founded a company he merely bought.  That would be bad.  There is no evidence given that musk says he founded the company rather than buying it except repeated claims of the presenter.  The evidence given in the video actually seems to contest this claim.  There is a bunch of other hay that is attempted to be made such as the mention of other people at the presentation “wearing masks” which is something basically everyone in the world who could has been doing for a year now.  Notice I didn’t mention those people in the US refusing to wear masks for political reasons.  That is a vanishingly small percentage of world population.

Excellent, so he currently has 0.03% of the current total population of the USA or 0.000125% of the 8 billion people on Earth signed up. A test of 10,000 users wouldn't be considered large scale in the UK and we only have 75 million people living here.

 

And as I also pointed out, even if it is higher latency than cabled broadband it still FAR exceeds any current solution for rural areas.

So the complaint is the test isn’t useful for some problems.  This could be true.  If this is the only test that could be a valid point.  I don’t know whether it is or not.
