Adding files to recently wiped and reinstalled laptop hard drive(win10). Doesn't matter where I put them, everything ends up deleted.

Joe Brainer

To ruminate on this:

This reminds me a bit of those counterfeit SD cards where they had a card with a really small size that was marked as a really large one.  You could transfer data to it as if it was a larger card but it would just loop.  The data effectively being dev nulled.

with a HDD data isn’t actually deleted till it is overwritten. the file allocation table is merely marked as having data that was deleted.  You could have a problem in that area.  No idea how to fix it personally.  Hopefully someone else will have better ideas than me.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Life is like a bowl of chocolates: there are all these little crinkly paper cups everywhere.

So, the data is there. Hard drive usage shows that it is, I just can't see the data.

Anyone got any bright ideas?
I feel pretty certain that if I put the laptop HD back into the Desktop, those files will still be there.
