Cheap Graphics Card?

Proxyy_

Budget (including currency): $200 to $400

Country: United States

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: GTA V, FiveM, LSPDFR, Minecraft, Firefighter Simulator, Among us, House Flipper, Rocket League, Zoo Tycoon, X-Plane 11, Hitman, Call of Duty, and Farming Simulator 19.

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): Just looking for a cheap but good graphics card within a budget of 200 to 400. Thanks! 🙂

You pretty much can't get any GPU at the moment on that budget, except for ancient designs from 15 years ago that have been sitting in the back of the warehouse gathering dust. Even two generation old cards are selling for more than that at the moment. Just save your money and wait.

CPU: i7 4790k, RAM: 16GB DDR3, GPU: GTX 1060 6GB

First of all, used must be the way to go right now.

Most of those games should be achievable on used market.

Although your value will be better if you wait until this gpu crisis is done, something like a gtx 980/980 ti/1070/1070 ti and better (1080/Ti, or any RTX card) should be viable for most of the games. No idea what COD you plan on playing or Hitman, but I think you should be fine if you're not expecting a huge amount of FPS

your best bet would be local used market, otherwise you might get lucky on ebay. 1050ti's are somewhat available under your budget, will run the games you want at acceptable fps on low/medium settings imo.

I found a gtx 980 on amazon for $528. Would this be okay?

If you're gonna pay that much for a GPU, might as well just get a 1650

EDIT: As stated already, your best bet currently(considering the state of the GPU market) is to buy used.

Something like this card isn't a total ripoff.  https://www.ebay.com/itm/ASUS-GeForce-GTX-1070ti-8gb-Rog-used-for-a-month/283893938485?hash=item421965b935%3Ag%3AKtkAAOSwcwReyYGP&LH_BIN=1

I would look at craigslist and then try to get an understanding of how much is a fair price for the used components. You will need to haggle to get a good price, but not every person is willing to haggle.

Otherwise, if you have a wired connection for your desktop I would consider using Geforce Now until this craziness is over.

Don't blame you, Ebay is reliable and the prices don't seem too outlandish. Plus there are buyer/seller protections in place. My advice.. Wait if you can. But if you absolutely need a card, Ebay's a good place to look.

Ouch! Personally, I couldn't stomach paying that much for a 980. The 3060 Ti I snagged at retail was only $470. Just wait if you if you possibly can.

Don't buy anything off of craigslist unless you can see and touch the item in person and make sure you are not getting scammed. Also, NEVER buy tickets from craigslist.

Even though most people already know this, never go to a Craigslist deal alone. Always go with someone else and let another person know where you are going just in case you don’t come back. Also when if possible pick the item up in a place where other people are around like a Starbucks.

Given some time, an ok deal can be found, and is much better than buying a new GTX 1050 ti for 220 bucks. Yea, ebay is messed up now.
