What new motherboard can I get that is compatible with an i3-6100 and ddr4?

Hello everyone, just wonder if anyone could help me find a replacement motherboard? I have a core i3-6100 (see photo) and 16gb of DDR4 ram. I need the motherboard to be compatible with both the ram and cpu... I have seen motherboards that advertised ddr3 and ddr4 version so Im wondering what to do? Any links,chipsets number, etc would be super helpful

Now im not sure where you saw ddr3 support for this but the boards should be b150 and z170 and h110 im pretty sure, as i believe the 6th gen are 1151 but there are different skews of that socket for different cpu generations is probably why you saw some that support ddr3.

6th and 7th gen had DDR3 and DDR4 support.

100-series (H110, B150, and Z170) and 200-series (B250 and Z270) will be compatible with your Core i3-6100.

There are motherboards for 6th gen that support DDR3, there are even motherboards for up to 9th gen Intel that support DDR3

 

however, @Fatneckitten123the vast majority of motherboards that support the 6100 also support DDR4. The cheapest B150, B250, H110, or H210 motherboard that you can get your hands on is what you should look for. If you want to be absolutely certain that it supports DDR4, look up the name of the motherboard you are interested in buying to see for yourself on the company's site.

 

Keep in mind that even though the CPU is socket LGA 1151, it is not compatible with 300 series motherboards like B360 or H310 (with some very rare exceptions)
