Noctua NH-D15SE-AM4 High temps (OC)

PatrikYT_98

I have Noctua NH-D15SE-AM4 on my R9 5900X I'm running the cpu at 1.275V and 4.7GHZ on all cores. I get temps around 90C running Cinebench R23 (just one run) and my ambient is 25°C. The system is just build on top of the motherboard box. If i try to run PRIME-95 It crashes (probably overheats). So is 90C normal for that oc? Or is something wrong? I'm also running my cpu fans at 1500rpm (max)

getting it in a case with good airflow should help.

Shouldn't be getting that hot imo. I'd check the mount and try again.

The D15 i had in the past easily kept my OCed CPUs cool while staying under 600RPM.

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.

The mount is good. I applied new thermal paste abour 3 months ago and i was still getting high temps before and after new thermal paste

yeah, agree, it would be a few degrees.

90 is too high with a nh-d15 and assuming you get 85 in a case, it would still be too high.

This is the cpu temp after 3 Cinebench R20 runs

Where do your temps end up without the OC?

While 80°C would be fine and in spec, it's just too high for a D15.

Something is wrong. As you're not inside a case, your cooler should have plenty of fresh air. 25°C ambient is also not too high.

What could be wrong?

LIke i said, the first suspect would be the mount. I've had GPUs overheat because i didn't know how tight i have to mount the cooler and under-tightened it. Other than that, check your auto voltages. But as you're on a manual voltage when OCed and it's not that high i don't know if this is where your problem is at. Can you confirm the middle fan of your cooler is also spinning and not just blocking airflow?

Sorry i'm out of ideas, maybe someone else can still help you further.

If something comes to mind, i'll make sure to get back to you...

ok. I think i will just try to put new termal paste on the cpu again and then check the temps
