why should I get a HDD. I’ve seen a lot of people use HDDs in their system but I don’t get why. Please let me know if you have an answer.

Bulk storage and for games that I don't care about if I lose; I can always redownload them. Plus, they are cheaper GB/$ compared to SSDs, but in the next couple of years, SSDs may become cheaper.

Thanks,

SSDs are the best for boot drives

Hard Drives are better for archiving/mass storage because cheaper

Uh, I would not reccomend the average person to get a hard drive for boot storage. Once you get an ssd you can never go back

They said necessity. Some people don't really care.

I am NOT a professional and a lot of the time what I'm saying is based on limited knowledge and experience. I'm going to be incorrect at times.

True, but I'd argue it is close to a necessity in 2021 for a new system, like cmon.

They just said It's fine for most people, they're not only addressing those who are building this year.

I don't think some people using a desktop care about the difference unless you told them, or if a slow or old worn out HDD was replaced by a new SSD. I do get the "Once you get one you can never go back" thing, but I don't feel the need.

Depends how much the system can use ram as a crutch to supplement slow c drive speeds and avoid page file.

Mainly noticed on FIRST BOOT (emply ram cache) and then you'll notice HDD vs SSD on opening apps.
Once you close an app, and reopen it, it's coming from RAM cache and hugely accelerated vs the first boot HDD app-startup time.
You can notice it still, but I see why many people just don't care yet... once its in Ram and you only do a couple things with your PC, hard to care about SSD's if your usage case doesn't really require one.

(Larger Windows Updates though... sheesh on a HDD)

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

Makes literally no sense to have a NAND flash smartphone and a HDD laptop or PC.

It's a legitimate reason people just really don't have the energy to use their laptops.  I can't say I know a single person who doesn't prefer their phone to PC's, and ease of use is #1 reason given. I argue the snappy speeds of a phone play into that greatly.  They will literally research things they can barely see on a 5 inch screen cuz it's fast.

People don't have the attention span to sit and wait anymore, when they have options.

Saying you don't care if your PC takes minutes to boot up... you're either part of the 0.0001% or playing devil's advocate here.  Probably while asking Alerxa for the temperature tomorrow, since you can't be bothered to take the time to look it up 🙂

Time is important to people.  Period.

Multiple factors... I was playing Devils advocate.
Take your needs out of the situation here..

Not everyone is fresh booting each time they use their PC, some leave them on, in sleep, hibernated or otherwise..
Not every PC on a HDD boots in over a minute... basic PC's, fresh install with some apps, boot time isn't extended much at all... sub 30 seconds.
Time is important,... but not every PC user treats life like "on the clock"
I do use my phone for simple tasks, the way of the world,.. even with an SSD powered PC myself, I still use my phone, as you said,.. the way of the world.

Billions of PC users exist. Sure,.. this thread is about a minority of users,.. but that minority still has huge numbers, and every user feels differently.

If HDD booting isn't for you, that's cool too.

Completely agree.  I am not saying you HAVE TO have an SSD.  I am saying that you do care your PC takes time to boot or do things, compared to your smartphone for example.

If you don't want SSD's in your PC, no skin off my back.  But to say it doesn't matter... it does, I guess just not enough for you.
