Only 150fps on overwatch with 3080 and 3700x

Hi guys

I have recently got my hands on a 3080, however I seem to be having problems with my fps, I was playing overwatch and noticed my fps was dipping as low as 90 during gameplay while only playing at 1080p (I will be upgrading to 1440p don't judge me XD).

My specs:

rtx 3080 FE GPU

ryzen 3700x CPU

evga Supernova 750w PSU

16Gb Corsair Vengeance 3600MHz RAM

B450 Aorus Pro Motherboard

I know that the CPU is not the best but I am sure that it should not impact the fps to this degree. I have noticed on games like warzone for example I am only getting around 110fps (all settings maxed). In GPU-Z I am getting PerfCap reason as Pwr although I am not entirely sure what that means. Any help would be appreciated as I don't want the hassle of sending the GPU back.

Thanks in advance 🙂

What Pwr means is that it's hitting power limit of the card. Try going into MSI afterburner and change the power limit of the card. I've done it on accident before and accidentally set the power limit of a card to 50 percent, which would account for why you are getting low FPS

I have checked afterburner and it is set to 100%, I have also reinstalled the latest NVidia drivers drivers could it be an old driver from my old GPU?

This sounds weird

Current Rig: Intel Core i9-11900k, ASUS PRIME Z590-V, 32GB DDR4, 2.0 TB worth of SSD storage, MSI GeForce GTX 1050 TI, all in the MSI MAG FORGE 100r chassis with Corsair RM850 PSU.

It is possible. I'd run DDU to try to get it fully eliminate a driver issue

I ran DDU and did a fresh driver install and no luck, still getting the same relatively low fps

I mean only that there are better CPUs out there for gaming I also agree its a great CPU thats why I chose it for my rig 😉

Given the reviews of leaked 11th Gen i7-11700K results, your Ryzen 3700X should be close to THAT in gaming.

Make sure your RAM is ACTUALLY running at DDR4-3600.

Double check to make sure XMP / A-XMP is enabled in the BIOS, otherwise, your RAM will just run at JEDEC default DDR4-2133.

DDR4-2133 will have a pretty significant performance hit on Ryzen.

What are your settings? Nvidia Control panel didn't max them all out did it?

I'm not actually trying to be as grumpy as it seems.

That means Raytracing, seems pretty good to me, maybe not the best it can be but still good,  for example I'm getting 120fps at 1440p with Raytracing,  but of course I didn't max out 'everything' since I had to stay within VRAM limits, and idk what film grain 100 would benefit me, or motion blur,  I fucking hate those effects...

I *strongly* (out of pure experience, I used to work at a repair shop for a while, I know how it usually is lol) suspect you probably have a lot of background processes running and maybe even

changed some settings which aren't necessarily beneficial (such an 'power limit') and therfore would suggest a complete  reinstall of windows and not changing *anything* except XMP... it's really best and highly recommended to not change any settings in windows if you aren't 100% sure you know what the settings actually do.

I don't think sending the card back will do anything, as everything points to the card working normally (especially since you don't seem to have any reliable data such as benchmarks like 3DMark, with default settings)

Actually with the 3xxx cards it seems best to undervolt them if you want to avoid running into power limit all the time as the drivers are tuned bit weird in that regard - mind you I don't think it's detrimental at all, the drivers actually do an amazing job keeping frequencies high and temps in check,  however undervolting made my card completely stop running into pwr and perfcap all the time, and since temps are lower performance actually went up!

Yet I don't think that's necessary either in most titles as it's just a few fps,  I mostly did it for consistency and less power usage, it's pretty amazing in some titles it keeps boost really high, over 1950, while using around 730mv, which is very close to *idle* voltage... nothing short of amazing how efficient these cards can be tbh!

Sorry if it's too old, but I don't understand, a few posts ago you said you used DDU and did a fresh driver install, and you said "still same issue with low FPS", now you say "yep DDU solved it", I don't get it, can you please explain what you did? I'm having the same issue, but with a 5800x / 3080 combo..Thanks!
