HELP NEEDED

I'm going for an IT job with minimum to no experience in IT. I have knowledge in basic stuff but need to know about:

General troubleshootinng with macOS iOS, tvOS
Understanding of voIP phone systems i.e. Cisco call manager

Understanding of Windows Server environment i.e. Active Directory
Understanding of Linux environments (highly desirable)
If someone coudld give me a crash course or even just link a couple of videos or things to read so I can learn a bit? Would be greatly appreciated!

Do you seriously think someone can give you a sufficient rundown of broad topics like that in a forum post? It seems to me you're just not qualified for the position... the best way to learn your way around these things is to just try and use them but it still takes time.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

you should rethink your choice of career.

It will take more than a "crash course" or watching some youtube videos to be qualified enough for a job like you have listed.

for linux environments

stackoverflow

for windows server environment

try setting up one yourself on vmware or another virtualization program.

and there doesn't exist a single crash course that can cover anything and everything about something.

there is always other ways to do things, so just do some research would be my best advice

Anything i've written between the * and * is not meant to be taken seriously.

keep in mind that helping with problems is hard if you aren't specific and detailed.

i'm also not a professional, (yet) so make sure to personally verify important information as i could be wrong.

It's not a career it's for a casual job as an IT assistant but thanks for your advice

so you are going to help someone with his business without being qualified for it. You are going to do more harm than help really...

Nah I don't think they can but I what I'm hoping is someone can point me in the right direction! The role is actually a casual role as an IT assistant (not specialist) and these things listed are desirable knowledge and not prerequisites per say. What I'm trying to say is that I'm quite new in the area of it all but am eager to learn and am hoping for someone to help me get started 🙂

For troubleshooting you need to have experience working with the os .

It will take time.

For macos the only to experience it is through hackinstosh or a macos vm unless you have mac.

You can see how to create a mac vm here

And how to do hacintosh here

Creating the other vms are simple. You can do it by yourself

If my answer is correct or is helpful please mark it as the solution. Quote me in your post to summon me. Beware that after summoning me ill never leave.

You may not be a good fit for the role (at the moment) But if it is something you really want to do I recommend getting something like an apprenticeship in IT as you will have a Job and be gaining valuable knowledge and experience of the role is a controlled environment.

If you were to get the job cracks may start to show if you don't have the knowledge which may be worst then just letting the job go. An apprenticeship you are not expected to know everything hence why you are there... to learn and it is one of the best things to do.

Yeah thanks for the advice! The role is a casual IT assistant and they know I don't have have any prior knowledge but I've got a connection in the firm and they are willing to train me if I get the role. I just thought I would try be ahead of the game but I'm realising that there's a LOT more than I thought to this and it's gonna take some time to learn

if you are going to deal with web servers then learning about ubuntu, reserve proxy nginx is going to help you a lot!

Best that can help is to daily drive Linux and not give up problem solving. You'll learn a lot, but don't start making up problems from thin air otherwise you won't have a natural motivation to continue. Just daily drive it and solve problems as they come. It'll take several years before you can say you're proficient is Linux though.
