3060 Price Jump

Agent_ZX

So I've been trying to build a computer for the past year, and I was eyeing this card, since it was the cheapest 30 series. Yesterday I was checking to see if it was in stock; of course it wasn't, so I got on the notification list. I checked this morning, and it had jumped to $2000 without, it seems, the help of the scalpers. What piece in the system (besides scalpers) is making these so expensive? I was able to get a Ryzen 5 5600x just by waiting with the aforementioned notification list, so why are graphics cards so vulnerable?

Yeah I know there are other factors; my question is, why is everything else through the roof, yet Ryzen 5000 series isn't? Is it really because GPUs are used for crypto and so miners are buying all of them?

There was some inflation in the price of the 5600x, but it was only around $50 to $80, so is the crypto enough to exponentially raise the price?

For the cpu it was just limited production. For gpu it is added with the same or larger demand from gamers but miners that will also pay more for the same product to mine.

I know that we are not supposed to say this: because people who mine don't like it...

But both AMD and Nvidia shipped record numbers of GPU the last two quarters despite the shortage. There is a shortage compared to demand no doubt about it. But much of it is caused by mining which is increasing year over year demand significantly. You can even see that on the various channels where people are tracking drops: They are full of people who already have many GPU yet are looking to buy many more because they think mining is easy money.

The other factor is a "relatively" new one, and a problem we are going to have to figure out. As everything is going to online shops bots are getting more and more prevalent and sophisticated. Cartels are growing and dark money will soo be investing in manipulating markets particularly anything that is "hot".

Buy a gaming laptop.

The only smart choice right now unless you're willing to give a POS scalper double or even triple.
