That's an acceptable amount of thermal paste; not too little or not too much, where the former requires more attention to allow for proper heat transfer to the CPU cooler.

There isn't really something as too much thermal paste. Of course within reason :p. A bucket of it on a cpu might be a bit on the excessive side but there are people that put a whole tube on and it's been tested to not have any impact on performance it just makes a big mess.

While true, I'm just thinking too much will be a mess and also can get into the pins if you're not careful enough and also the socket if you really screw up.

Not really the mounting pressure of the socket keeps it out. The only way for it to get in is if you ever remove it and done clean up the mess you made whilst it's still in socket.

Ehh even then it's thermal paste easy enough to dissolve/clean up it without impacting the motherboard or socket. It's not the end of world just an annoyance. I've gotten botched diy builds in a fair few times were they did the thermal paste in socket thing :p.

It's still a PITA to clean. I never have a problem with thermal paste getting into sockets as I thinly spread it. Everyone's methods are different and are subject to have different outcomes.

Can't have a problem getting it in the socket if you dump the entire tube directly onto it!
