Can I game over WDS??

So I just watched the Tech Quickie episode about WDS and I am interested in wether this will help me with my problem. So I want to upload videos and game over wired internet but my router is downstairs. Would WDS help my situation. Any additional information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

It won't give you wired speeds as its still a wireless link. Running a ethernet cable or something like moca is a much better solution.

Will moca or WDS be faster than WiFi?

Moca will be much faster and better latency that wifi, but run ethernet if you can.

 

WDS is wifi, basically the same speeds

So if I use the lan ports on my old router i could get the same speeds as WiFi?

Yea about the same speeds, depends on the exact wifi cards in both of them.

Yes, WDS uses WiFi, but it operates at half-duplex speeds similar to range extenders or wireless repeaters.

 

The only benefit of WDS is improving WiFi coverage using an old/existing wireless router. Don't expect anything else. It's a significant downgrade to using a proper AP or another wireless router altogether.
