Is it possible to take my old laptop's HDD and put it in my new pc?

luissuguitan

I had a Asus X540U and unfortunately the screen broke, it still boots fine, but its not useable unless I have a monitor. However, I have a new pc but unfortunately it only has a 100gb SSD, making it small for games and productivity.

I'm wondering if I can take the HDD from the X540u and merge it with my existing SSD on my pc. I am kind of skeptical about this because the HDD from the laptop has Windows on it and drivers which are different from my PC's hardware. I don't know if that is gonna cause some conflict or something.

What would be the best solution in order to merge my old HDD to my new SSD without losing any files from the old HDD (my music production software and instruments are there + music I've been working on since 7th grade :(( )

Thank you in advance for those who answer!

Yea it will work fine in the pc. You can't really merge it with your ssd, but id just use it as a seperate drive

So it'll work fine even if I had windows on the old one? Will it not make me choose which drive to boot from when I start the pc?
