Need help what to do need a better PC for gaming but cant really afford a new one so figured maybe some upgrades will be worth it. Here is my current PC.

Mother board : P6XD58D-E

CPU : I960 (3.2ghz 4 cores 8 threads)

Ram: 12G ddr 3

GPU: GTX780

Windows 7...

I was thinking upgrading the cpu to a I7 - 990X, Ram to 16g DDR3 (2100), and gpu to a GTX 1080.  Now I can not find these parts anywhere maybe you guys can sell me them? I'm located in Canada Alberta so not too crazy far from your BC area, Also if I can get my hands on these parts would this upgrade be a huge increase over what I currently have?

I need some what of a gaming pc to get away from time to time from my two kids who are very active and draining, Love my kids but sometimes we all need a break.

as for GPU id recommend a rx570 4gb or the Rx580 which is the card I run right now and play Gta V maxed borderlands 3 halo cod and a heap of other titles using this gpu and the 570 is still a decent card as well as aim for a 980strix used those are still solid. But youll need to search around the used markets for those.

Best of luck!

thanks for the info, i’ll keep searching gpus are so hard to find even old ones. at least for a normal price.

If linus wants me to send my pc to them and 1000 canadian rubies to see what spare parts they can swap for some improvements based on their input maybe even make a video on it that be ok with me 🙄

What kind of titles are you trying to play? From that we can help you find the perfect fit for your best choice and within your budget. I personally have had great success from Ebay made and sold a few 6600k rigs with 1050tis for a nice profit but only at 450 or 250 without the gpu and they move like water in the sands (when i can build them and bills don't amass lol)

open world games mostly like GTA V , horizon zero dawn, Witcher 3. Goal is 1080p 60fps my witcher 3 currently will do about 45-50fps on medium settings would like to achieve 60fps on high at 1080p

I suggest looking for a 1650super or a Rx 580 8gb both would meat those needs with no issue Ive seen used 1650s go for around 300-400 and used rx580 8gb for 250-450 people can be haggled with, one tip is tell em I got a crisp couple 100s for you usually that is enough to entice most people into selling.

if I went with a 1650 super do you think my cpu would be ok or would I need to upgrade it too?

a few titles you want to play would be pushing it but should be playable https://www.ebay.ca/itm/intel-Xeon-i7-975-i7-970-I7-980-i7-980X-i7-990X-LGA1366-CPU-Processor/133019747776?hash=item1ef89845c0:g:SSoAAOSw~Lpcr2KH

Edit: To show Modern VS the Older I7 980x

I would personally recommend grabbing a i7 980x and a nice aftermarket cooler and a half decent gpu and you should be good for far less than modern components.

thanks for your input, i think your totally right my best option is that I7 980x with a decent gpu.  I never purchased used pc components before are they usually reliable ?
