Regarding 11th generation Intel CPUS: Z490 vs Z590

I understand this is speculative since they are not yet out - but any reason beyond BIOS updates to get a Z590 over the Z490?

Seems most Z490 also support PCIE4 hardware level, just need the CPU that will support it as well.

Assuming you had a means of updating the BIOS and If you had an intention on grabbing an i9-11900k, would it be a good or bad idea to grab a quality Z490 at a discount vs paying the premium on a Z590?

What do you all think?

None of the above?

DDR5 or Ryzen 5800X. (I think you have one now??_)

And even the 5800X doesn't look that appealing to me over a 8700K.

A lot of people like user benchmark. A lot of people know better (you and I select others).

However, I will use it as comparison any ways. I believe it's viable (enough), I can probably personally produce better numbers with my 8700K than 90% or more of those that have submitted to Userbenchmark.

obviously, take this with a grain of salt.

I canceled it. It's not worth the upgrade. 11th gen probably isn't either.

I'm just curious.

Are you going to convince me to do a userbenchmark score now?

i just updated my BIOS a while ago and it has the most recent mitigations. I lost about 2% cinebench going from F12c to F15.

Well, I'd probably buy a Top End Z490 board. But like you said, on speculation. Premiums suck 😛

I don't know what this means but this is what I got:

I feel like I got hacked by using this executable. for shame

I do kinda want more cores though....just well...because it's been over 3 years.

personally im lazy so z590 for sure, but if you can save money and flash the bios then why not, i'm more worried about the actual performance of 11th gen though, every 3rd party leak of rocket lake has been extremely disapponting.

I also have a 10100 that I could use to update if I really had to - but this is just theorycrafting.

I'm not gonna lie, I know there won't be huge gains but I just want an upgrade within the next few months.

The 11700K is a 5ghz 14nm chip.

You already have one..... essentially. *shrugs*

11700K 125w from the box. Yeah maybe with average usage over an average time period. But realistically, its going to be hotter than your 8700K because of the thread count. So whatever your Temps are now at load, add like 15-20c lol.

It's a new architecture, though. Just backported to 14nm.

I'm not sure how I feel about everything. Just so uninspired by the whole lot of them.

If every test I saw showed the 5800x beating out Intel parts, even soemthing like a 10600k, then yeah it would be a no-brainer. But sadly that isn't the case.

Most of the time it does, but the lack of a clear win is depressing.

Well it's frustrating because you know there needs to be justification to spend that kind of money. You did not find it because the 5800X is not in use.

If you had used it, this thread would have likely not been thought of. You'd be concentrating on Ryzen performance gains and measuring against your old rig.

In the end 100fps vs 110 fps doesn't justify a purchase. Ohh glam Cinebench on a daily gaming rig. 16 threads and half or more are idle on the most intense games.

So my 2700X remains the 4K gaming rig until DDR5. I cannot find justification myself. Not even for benchmarking purposes.

I should probably up my display game - it's just a chore because i have so many displays as it is and i need to have 2 dedicated for work that makes the rest of my setup kind of a pain.

I'm going to be honest about that.

I had 3 monitors and then two. Back to three.....

Then, I pulled my bedroom TV (we hardly used it) which is some cheap 1080P with HDMI ports (I'm lucky if it's 60hz, I've never really bothered to look cause I am not a heavy gamer) ....

And it was the best gosh darn thing I ever did. 49" so it's not HUGE, but I can SEEEEEEE everything for the first time in probably like 7 years lol. (I've always had bad eyes, but I'm no spring chicken anymore) !!

Seriously. It's absolutely wonderful. The HTPC is 55" 4K. (The kids gaming rig) movies family photos during the holidays. I don't think it's ever been turned off lol or even idle. It does F@H in it's spare time. 🙂

Edit:

I should mention that split desktop (window snapping) is like having 2x 25" screens turned on their side. It's how I view multiple forums. Additional snapped program windows start squeezing the space though.

It's not really workable for my main office/gameplay system. The games I mostly play are MMOs and FPS games on this system - it's not really feasible for a big TV.

I have another computer plugged into my 1080p 50" tv, and the hardware needed to play that well is pretty minimal. i3-10100 and an RX 580 is plenty for it. Since it's so far away, I can even run at 720p and it looks great from the 10 feet away I am playing at. I play most of the bigger action/adventure games on this system, and it's great.

Regarding my office, it is on an L shaped desk. I have 2 1440p displays on my left for work plugged into a laptop that I just can't go without - due to the nature of what I do, I just need to have two displays dedicated for that purpose or it just isn't workable.

I have two other displays for my personal system on the right - both are 1440p with one being a high refresh/Gsync for gaming, another for media/forums.

I want to grab a nice QHD Ultrawide for my gaming system, but I also like having a second display just for media/forums. There just isn't enough desk real estate for that to happen, unless I rig one of my work displays to work for both during on/off hours and eliminate my farthest right personal/forum display.

Oh right on. Desktop real estate, yep more monitors does the trick!

What do you think about those curve ultra wides? I've always fancied getting one.....

I sat at one for about 1n hour at a buddy's house once. It was really nice, but I don't remember which one it was. I think if it's large enough the curve makes sense - so ultrawides. Regular sized displays that are curved are kind of silly imo.

Oh for sure. Ultra wide curved makes way more sense. Maybe some day. When my kids start moving out..... someday.... hopefully XD
