How to remove a four-pin fan without tripping the BIOS on power-on

CaptainMalware

Hello.

So I have this build of mine which is outstanding. Except for one thing, the case fan is EXTREMELY loud. I tried cleaning it, but it still makes a lot of noise. Since my build is an open case PC, I thought it wouldn't effect it's performance if I take out the case fan. But here lies my problem: My BIOS Always freaks out when the fan isn't there and plugged in, and I would like it if it didn't blare at me when all I want to do was start my PC. Since My MOBO is pretty old, there isn't a way to turn it off from in the software. are there any hardware hacks to make the computer "Think" that a fan is there without actually having the fan there? Preferably without Soldering?

Most BIOSes have options to ignore certain fans, unless you are using some like a mobo from Dell or HP, where such things can't be modified.

NOTE: I no longer frequent this site. If you really need help, PM/DM me and my e.mail will alert me.

maybe be really dumb and cut the wire and electrical tape it, it may recognise a slot but no fan there, ir upgrade your fan to a silent one the first bit may short though

OP, multiple possibilities. Potentially put the fan in quiet mode in the BIOS if the BIOS has such options, tell it to ignore that fans RPM if it has that option. Buy a in line resistor (noctua sell them) to reduce the voltage to the fan and thus reduce its RPM, or upgrade to a higher quality lower noise fan.

It is the case fan. I thought about only having the CPU fan because My computer wouldn't need a secondary fan, since it is open case. Thanks for the replies.
