Hey all, got a request from a customer for a PC build that I'm not all that familiar with.

I can build & recommend gaming PC's with my eyes closed, however I've had a customer request a build that will allow him to play 10 youtube videos, in 10 browser instances, simultaneously.

They only need it on one monitor too. I would assume that youtube videos use your gpu as hardware acceleration, but to what extent? What should I go with? Used hardware/older hardware is not a problem, happy to pair a 3470 with a 1080ti if that's what the play is.

Where would you start with a system of this spec? TIA!

Pretty sure you can do that even with iGPUs. Recent i5s with iGPU should be fine, if you want to play it safe also get a 1660 or 1650.

ya gpu doesn't affect videos as much as at does games and developer software (3d rendering etc). Honestly it would be more the CPU and RAM for the multitasking, followed by internet bandwidth that would affect the performance of a task like this, but it still wouldn't take much. Just about any current gen processor could more than handle that task, as for RAM, eh 16 - 32gb should be more than enough. Watching video streams eats very little in the way of resources as compared to actually creating or editing streams. The only thing the GPU is really going to affect is at what quality to watch at, obviously a 1050ti isn't going to run 4k, but it can run at 1080p standard hd just fine.

It actually does, hardware accelerated video decoding is a major factor when it comes to taking load off the CPU. My point behind my post was that iGPUs now support almost every codec needed for web based video decoding. Another point, 1050ti can decode 4k60 just fine as it supports decoding them on architecture wise. 16G ram is more than enough for %90 of the users, especially for video playback.

Well one issue is youtube seems to love new codecs, most videos with a good amount of views are av1 now, so you will need xe or a 3000 series gpu(maybe amd 6xxx, idk) to decode in hardware. Your best option for getting that cheap is a tigerlake nuc or rockerlake when it comes out.
